So WHO's Going to the Detroit Auto Show?
I'd be interested in meeting up with my fellow 'Stang nuts in Detroit for the Auto Show. Anyone else? How about a head count. I'll be there on January 15th and 16th. The show opens the NEW CAR SHOW season and it absolutely kicks butt! I'd like to arrange a group photo for posting on TMS one of those two days...
In the event anyone wants to go to the show, I'd like to offer the following advice:
a. Wake up early.
b. Eat a good breakfast.
c. Wear comfortable shoes (preferably sneakers) because you will walk for MILES in the Cobo Center.
d. Chill out and try to be patient with the throngs of people attending. DO NOT expect to get award-winning photos of your favorite cars. The sheer volume of people will make it nearly impossible to get clear shots!
e. Avoid collecting literature that you will not find useful at the end of the day. It's pointless filling up goody bags full of brochures unless you intend to keep them or give them to loved ones. AND OH YEAH...THEY GET REALLY HEAVY BY DAY'S END!
I urge everyone who can make the trek to Detroit to do so. The show is a blast and everyone has a great time! The displays are almost as fun to see as the cars themselves...

That's cool. I'm figuring on taking a group shot in the morning of Saturday the 15th. Hope I can get a few folks to commit to a 5 minute photo op!
I stayed at the Renaissance Center the past two years. It's easily within walking distance of the Cobo Center. Stayed on the 52nd floor one year; great view of the river and Windsor, Ontario
to the south!
I think the People Mover is finally working again... it should go to the Ren Cen now, which would make things even easier. I'm at the Omni this time around, but they've got shuttles running all day to the Cobo Center.

That's great! Now we've got a group! I realize there are a few people that may sit this one out... especially those who've already taken delivery of a 2005 MUSTANG. But if you haven't, and you can get there, you'll be glad you attended. A buddy of mine from Toronto joined me a couple of years ago and he had a great time. And he doesn't even have a car, nor did he plan on getting one! It's just a fun atmosphere.
I'll finalize plans to take a TMS group shot as the date draws near, but as I said, it will most likely be taken on the morning of Saturday, January 15th (the official opening day for the public). Probably near the FORD exhibit... where else?

We'll probably meet Saturday, January 15th around noon. Originally shooting for morning, but it will most likely be afternoon, just so everyone can gather.
You can check in your coats in the lobby. You'll enjoy yourselves better, fell less encumbered.

I'm going there with a small posse from Tri-State Muscle. We're all going on Sat Jan 22nd. And going into Greektown for dinner after and maybe a few bars.

You're wise to go later in the course of the show; the crowds may thin a little by then. I couldn't wait! I wanted to get in as soon as I could, that's why I chose the first day for public viewing.
Maybe you could take a shot of your group as well and we can create an online photo album in a thread on TMS. Just an idea.

I'd love to go but it's like 2 and a half days drive for me to get there. I think I'll wait for the NY auto show.

Sorry you can't make the trip, but New York puts on a great show too. I grew up in New York. Do they still have the show at the Jacob Javitz Center? That place is enormous!

Our group is a bunch of crazy drunks
Hahaha. We got ourselves a group shot at one of the Dodge's area last year.
That last Saturday was the only good day for people in the group.. and a friend of mine from NJ is coming up that weekend.
The casino's are "ok" but not what Detroit is all about
I like to show the out of towners what the good places are.If you guys wanna hit a good pizza place.. go to PizzaPapalis again http://www.pizzapapalis.com/

Been going to the Detroit Auto show since I was a little kid. For those that have never been there.. you'll be amazed. And trust me.. the crowds won't ever die down. It's alway packed. Be prepared to do a lot of walking.
Have fun. And everyone post some pics up
I'll be there. Only about an hour drive for me. Wow I can't imagine coming from as far as some of you will. No one that I know wants to go (except for my my wife and I) and they live around here.
I love going. Mostly to check out the concepts. But this year I have a good excuse to go. I have to check out the verts in person so I can decide what I want to order. B)

Thanks for the suggestion! When it comes to food and entertainment, I always trust the locals. I agree about the photos; even if you can't make the group shot, get a shot of yourselves with friends and family. Post them on TMS as soon as you can. I'll have mine up by Saturday night (gonna bring my laptop). :geek: Side attractions last year included a fashion show, "Mini Me" from Austin Powers, tons of concepts, imports, exotics and customs, as well as cars created on Monster Garage. There really is something/someone for everyone.
