GPS Vehicle tracking system
#1
So what is out there on the market for GPS tracking of your car.
They steal Mustangs like crazy around here but I dont think I can
take the financial hickey of a GPS system.
The last one I saw was made by OnGuard but I think they went under
years ago.
Have they gotten any cheaper? Better?
Whats out there?
Thanks!!
On a side note I am now a GT Member!!

Hey Bob, I pretty sure LO-Jack is just radio signal based. They do have something extra called early warning that notifies the network if your car moves without some pass key. they call you so you can check the car if your not near it. Check lojack.com for more info. I just have the flyer from when I picked up my car. Do yall have Lo-Jack in the patrol cars there?

groupset this almost looks what the RCMP use in Canada theres are Live Time can map your location out and even keep track of speed. That is what I am looking to have put in. Still waiting my contact info to go ahead.

I've got LoJack. I could have sworn it was based on GPS. It cost me a grand at the dealer, but is guaranteed 24 hour recovery. I live in the bay area in CA. Not the best place for a flashy car. Next I will install side mounted flame throwers

in all the years we have had it I cant recall us EVER
recovering a vehicle taken that was outfitted with Lojack. If we key to it
the display gives us a
number and we have to call to find out what it is. Unless they have
changed dramatically Lojack will not help me if my car is stolen.
I cant figure out what Lojack does. Police cant track it....it has no GPS....

I've got lojack, with the early warning. It's radio based as far as I know. It is only active when they activate it. There are no flashy stickers or any indication that you have it. Which can be good, but it may help I guess...

We have the Lo-jack receivers in our patrol cars too. I have only had it activate once and it turned out to not be stolen. Daughter ran away with daddies car so they activated it so we could find her. She actually drove past me about 1/4 mile away but I was recovering another possible stolen car so I couldn't go after her. I think our helicopter found one in a chop shop once. If it cost a little less and more people had it then it would work pretty good. You have to call lo-jack and tell them your car is stolen before it will be activated. It sends out a radio signal for the receivers to pick up. That early warning deal sounds pretty good though. I thinka GPS based one would be better though.

On the Viper GPS. The best I understand the unit installed is about $695 and you get a year of basic (Security) coverage for free . Scroll down on this link for the 3 package options Viper GPS
Basically it's $4.10/month for the basic (after the first year), $7.50/month for the 30 internet lookups/year level, and $9.95/month for the 150 internet uses per year.
I like the 'GeoFence' mode that if your car is towed more than 150 meters the alarm goes off! You can also add on the Viper Security system. The basic GPS system I think will page, e-mail, or call your cell phone (or all 3) if your 'GeoFence' alarm goes off.
Also as mentioned above ( by another alert TMS member) you can go to the manufacturers site (Directed Electronic) by going to Viper GPS (Directed Electronics)
Sounds like I’m a salesperson, but I just think the technology is cool.
