Giants... I would've told him Shockey's a Homo... He probably would've found another reason to ticket me. In Ohio, they can't even pull you over in an unmarked car for a traffic offense, let alone out of uniform. If you don't decide to fight it, I'd at least file a complaint.

Personal Rant: Law enforcement should not have the authority to break into your home wearing all black military style clothing, with black ski masks over their faces. Likewise, law enforcement should not be able to pull you over, wearing a football jersey, looking no different that the guy on the news who just got arrested for car-jacking. When a cop serves a no-knock warrant at 2:00 am, and I shoot him wearing no uniform... am I really breaking the law? You get my point, file a complaint, stand up for your rights. rant over

Two things:

1. Cops are never off duty. If they see some one breaking a law then they can enforce it.

2. You broke the speed limit with a cop right next to you and you expect not to get pulled over???

9 cops out of 10 are arseholes... spoken from personal experience. It's too bad for the 1 in 10 who are actually decent people.

I'd fight that ticket for sure...

.....and i bet 1 out of 10 people who get pulled over are even bigger arseholes.
Bottom line: Break the law, be prepared to pay the price.

First, many of the traffic laws are horribly outdated and don't jive with the technology in today's cars. Secondly, cops are the worst offenders in traffic. They speed without their lights on, they roll through stop signs and traffic lights whenever they feel like it and thirdly, if they ever do get pulled over off duty, their badge is a get-out-of-jail-free-card.

It's very hard to respect the laws when those tasked with enforcing them are above them. The "do as I say, not as I do" attitude has got to go.

Does that mean you've been pulled over by at least 9 cops?!!!

I do agree with the majority here. If your looking for someone to side with you, good luck, our opinions won't do you jack in court. He may just have been giving you a hard time for challenging him and may not have intended on going to court. You may have changed his mind though with the Giants comment. I would say that if your tint is illegal, don't bother fighting it in court. It just shows that the cop was 50% right and most probably 100% right. There isn't too much justice in justice. I've learned a few things about the law...1. Never admit guilt 2. Just keep you butt out of trouble and you won't have to worry about the law. I know some guys on probabtion for ridiculous things that has more face time at his house with his probation officer than a convicted felon has with a parole officer. Don't blatantly speed and you won't have to worry about petty tickets.

Rule number 1 never break the law infront of Law Enforcement...even if it is only five over.

I think the only time I have ever passed a cop is because they were going slower than the posted speed limit and even then I was nervous.

Most of the time you see all these cars tailgating eachother with a cop about two car lengths a head of the lead car. When someone breaks that then the cop is offended because of a percieved lack or respect, and will find a reason to pull you over.

First of all...ALL OF YOU HAVE SPED BEFORE. DO NOT GET HIGH AND MIGHTY WITH ME ACTING LIKE YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT THOSE WHO ARE PAINTING ME OUT TO BE THE BAD GUY HERE.
I wasn't shooting someone or robbing a store. I wasn't raping anyone or shooting up. THESE ARE PUNISHABLE OFFENSES. Offenses that HE SHOULD BE OUT PURSUING, not wasting both of our times for pulling me over driving safely down a major highway.
And yes I am guilty of speeding as well on occasion and if I were to be pulled over for such speeding, I would pay the fine and be found guilty...for SPEEDING. I was going 4-5 mph over the POSTED speed limit with someone directly behind me. THAT is why I am pissed...

Get over it. You sped, with him right next to you. It doesnt matter if it was 1mph over, or 5mph over."Im sorry officer, i was only smoking a small small joint, its not like i was dealing the stuff" See the point? It doesnt matter YOU SPED. GUILITY

The tint i have no idea, whether its illegal or not. No Opinion.

The lenency speed is BS. CA laws do not apply in MD for one. Second MD has no such law.

I concur, MD state Police, are never off duty.

Just curious - how many times have you been stopped prior to this instance, drizztbob? (Not how many actual tickets you've received; how many times have you been pulled over?)

Wow...I thought this was a mustang web site not the MD State Troopers Convention. Anyway, A fellow mustang owner and officer found that tidbit about basic speed law in his training manual for patrol officers in CA. The 65 MPH is the lenancy speed for a posted 55 MPH zone. And lastly, I did not give him any attitude until I drove away yelling "Yeah and the Giants stink!!!!"
You do know that different states have different laws. You are stating a California law and you were pulled over in Maryland. You also never said whether your tint is legal or not.

Okay........here we go. First of all, like everyone else said..DONT break the law in front of a police officer, even if it is 5 mph over. I agree with Fia Cobra...driving faster than the speed limit next to or in front of the cop is pretty much challenging him. And there is no such thing as a "Basic Speed Law" -each traffic law is governed by each jurisdiction, period. An traffic idea/law or whatever in CA doesnt mean squat in Maryland. And I do agree, there are a lot of cops that are a$&holes, but there are plenty that aren't either. Everyone thinks cops are A$&holes.........until they need one. And saying "Officer XXX, I wish the worst upon you." is pretty petty and childish itself. Those guys see things and do things most people could never want to do or see. If he was in the wrong, go to court and fight it. But don't blanket every cop because of this incident...........it just perpetuates the stereotype. Everyone has bad days, unfortunately maybe on his he was taking it out on you.
