Ok I did a search and couldn't find any information about this potential problem, so if this is a repeat, I'm sorry. Here's what happened. My uncle was driving my 06 gt for the first time. After about 10 minutes he decided he wanted to "punch it" so we found a deserted area with about a mile stretch and he floored it. I was in the passenger seat and when he stomped it, it appeared to me that maybe his foot slipped off the pedal. the car appeared to have a dead spot in the throttle. It then felt like he got back on it. He then said the pedal was stuck and I told him to hit the brake. it felt like he was braking and accelerating at the same time. I pulled the emerg. brake and turned the ignition off. He swore the pedal stuck. I got behind the wheel and it drove fine. This has never happened to me and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I personally think this was a driver error problem, but I can't say for sure. The floor mat possiblly got pushed up and bunched around the gas pedal and brake, but my uncle still swears the pedal stuck. Any experience with this issue??????????????

I haven't done a search, but I do remember a similar topic on this site. It has been a while back, so I can't remember all the specifics, except there were comments about possible interference with the driver's floor mat.

Hi Rob,
Yeap!! It has happened to me more than once and I can tell you it will make your butt take a bite out of you leather seats if you know what I mean. I put in aftermarket floor mats and have proven that the accelerator pedal will get hung up under the edge of the mat if it is pushed forward a little. ( At WOT) Be careful and check it out.
Scott

P.S. I started that thread. I will see if I can find it for you.

Rob,
Here is the thread I started. At first I did not know what the problem was but I now know it is the floor mat.

Same here regarding the floor mat - did it twice before I fiqured it out. Had put the rubber Weather Tech mats in. I drilled a hole which the floor stop goes thru - no more problem

Of course, if the floor mat can’t reach up to the gas pedal, (the stock mat has a retaining hook) then we may have the old "Audi 5000" problem. It only happens with automatics, and drivers with less than 1,000 miles of driving that particular car. The very last "60 minutes" show I watched (and will ever watch) was covering the Audi 5000 unintended acceleration. Those “TV Experts†blamed the car. No, it wasn't the car. The driver plain old stomps on the gas and swears it’s the brake.

As the old headstone states:

Here lies the body of Jessie McDrake
He stepped on the Gas, instead of the Brake

Hey Scott, thanks for the link to your original thread. Thanks to everyone else for the responses. I have experimented with the mats and it is definately a floor mat issue. I went the cheap route and got some generic black floor mats with a big beautiful Ford oval and thought they looked sharp. They are now out of the car and I'll be spending a little more money for mats specifically designed for my 06. Thanks again to all who responded.

I you find something neat let me know. I just keep pulling my big aftermarket mats back to the rear to keep them away from the gas pedal.

To all who helped with OKLACOP's problem. Wonder how many others you have helped. I was thinking about some aftermarket floor mats, now I will look a lot closer at how they fit. Good use of this forum
