I still don't understand why anyone is using anything higher than an 87 octane rating in their car. It does NOT need premium and you will NOT benefit from it. Save yourself some money and stop buying PREMIUM.

 

You need to put a bit more thought into that comment IMO. Most people here are willing to put up with worse milage than many in the general populous and they know that when they buy the car. However, even people buying a mustang GT don't expect 13-15mpg unless driven hard.

It is the regular guy's car bought with a normal person's salary. Gas does cost money. It isn't a Ferrari.

 

The way gas prices are these days it does make a difference to me.

I'm not worried about the money. I was just curious what kind of milage other drivers were getting.

I had a 2002 and it got almost 20 mpg. My 05 is only getting about 14. I just wanted to know if this is what I should expect or if it would get better.

That is the point of these forums. To ask all different kinds of questions about our mustangs and see if others are having the same experiences..........

The Mustang has a small tank (16 gal) and poor gas mileage makes it a real PITA to have to stop for gas a couple times a week.

If you read the 07 Cobra rumors thread you'll note that buried in it was a comment about both HP AND gas mileage increase for the GT in 07. Sound's like Ford knows there's lots of room for improvement.

 

I wasn't directing my comment at you actually.

I just feel that comments like "You bought a mustang and you should expect insurance and gas to eat up all your savings and salary.......sorry, your kids can't eat" are ignorant.

The car should get decent milage for a V8 especially with emissions measures. Anyone on here concerned about milage shouldn't be alienated for feeling that way.

I'm willing to absorb the cost of gas with this car. But com'on, not even a stang should get 14 mpg driven normally.

 

I average about 25-27 miles per hour and get about 18-19 mpg. But my HC filter fell out this weekend, and we will see if that actually does help the mpg.

I have about 1400 miles on my GT. Last weekend, I started a trip near the highway. By the time I drove 120 miles I was at 24.7mpg, in hard rain at around 70mph. Then 20 miles were in stop and go traffic. Mileage dropped down to 22.7. My car's computer is pretty accurate. Always less than .5 variation, but usually .2 difference.

This equals approx 24.5mpg* 85% of trip = 21.0 + 15% at city mileage of 14 mpg or 2.0 = 23, in total.

This is in line with EPA. Pure highway at 25 mpg. City is more variable considering how long it takes in stop and go traffic to go a certain distance. My 14 - 15 mpg in miserable city driving is not far off EPA.

But, what I think of as my suburban driving leans heavily to the city numbers. Local driving without too much standing still or stop and go. Travelling around 40 mph, stopping at lights every few blocks. I get around 17 mpg suburban. 16, if I hit the pedal.
