I have a guage problem on my V6 2006 coupe. I started the car as normal, had between 1/4-1/2 tank of gas, then while cruising along at 30MPH, the guage dropped to empty and the gas light came on. The car continued running normally and I didn't smell any gas so I know the car still has gas. It looked like it might have been SLOWLY working it's way back up to normal indication, but when I parked at home it was still down around empty. I checked to make sure the gas cap was on good also. Does anyone have any ideas?

Not necessarily- a similar problem happened to my V6 Mustang- long story short, my dealership made $100 for plugging in their scan tool and filling my tank with Techron (That's all it says on the bill- I assume its Chevron Fuel system cleaner w/ Techron that you can pick up at a Wal-Mart or Auto parts store). Told me to go through two tanks of gas and always use the reccommended octane and sent me on my way. Problem solved, my float is fine

If I recall correctly some owners have had trouble with gasoline that had too much phosporous in it. Supposedly this caused problems similar to what you describe. By adding the Techron the service tech's are basically trying to hasten the process of cleaning up the gasoline. If adding the Techron doesn't fix it I believe the next thing to have them look at may be the senders.

yeah I've read about this same problem on other forums. They typically just used 93 oct. and a fuel system cleaner and it went back to normal after a tank or 2.

hmm, Ive noticed the same thing recently. Ive been using Shell gas and the last two tanks, when I get down to 100 miles or less, the gauge goes nuts and says I have 10 or less miles of gas. I'm going to the dealer on Wednesday for some cosmedic issues I want fixed, so I figured I would mention it as well then. Thanks for the heads up!
