Fuel Filter Replacement

How often do you change your fuel filter? Do you go by miles or the age of the filter? I'm still on the original but only have 10,000 miles. Do they go bad by age alone?

Edit: I change it every 4-5 years , but do not drive too many miles (about 2,000 miles a years in both my cars)

I changed mine once around 50,000 miles which was at about 7 years old.

There was nothing wrong with it, but it was cheap. So i figured i might as well.

Ford's recommended interval is every 30k miles. They're cheap and easy enough to change that I don't see any reason to leave them in any longer than that

Changed mine at 80K and all kinds of crap fell out of it. They are super cheap and really easy to do so pick one up and do it today.

It's right in the service schedule they put in the same pouch as your owner's manual. You've got till your next oil change, sounds like

See if you can PM Tbone. He changed mine. I know it's not hard. It's just tucked up under the driver's side, near the door.

If search doesn't do it for you, it's in the factory service manual

I've had mine done at the factory recommendedand one or two more times at the request of the tuners as I was having issues. So, with the mileage/age of my car it works out to changing it once every 9kmiles over 7 years. The filters are cheap and the job is easy.

Below are the instructions that Ifound on the Internet.
******Use at your own risk.*******
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. (I was able to do this with the car on the ground. It’s tight but doable.)
  2. Release the fuel system pressure.
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4. Remove the 2 fuel bundle shield retaining bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  5. Remove the 2 fuel bundle shield retaining nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  6. Remove the fuel bundle shield pin-type retainer and position the fuel bundle shield aside.
  7. Disconnect the fuel tube quick connect couplings from both sides of the fuel filter.
  8. Release the fuel filter bracket mounting bolt
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  9. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter bracket.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
