if this engine(3.5L) makes it into the mustang 250 hp AWD, (hope they skip simple FWD) cool; then add a hybrid version yee-haw....

2010 ford mustang AWD ,3.5L V6 250HP, Hybrid. i'd buy that for a dollar, or even 30,000. :worship:
if you build it they will come, of course the mustang doesn't have a problem selling now, but this could be a nice road to go down in a couple years.. only time will tell what's next.

untill then my 2005 4.0 L V6 will keep me happy..

Just to make sure we're clear... tpwiptttt is most definitely not just another member i created to promote the idea of a hybrid mustang. NOtice how he/she uses the smily things a lot more than me.

You may be right.

Here is another article on the Japanese inflated HP #s.
http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0.../A01-283759.htm

It says that Ford will not be re-testing existing engines to the new standard (any new engines will be tested per the new rules) The Duratec30 in the 2006 Fusion was originally tested under Ford's interpretation of the old SAE standard @ 210 HP. Then they re-tested it under the new proceedure and came up with 221 HP.

So it stands to reason that the 4.0L Mustang V6 is closer to 225 HP than 210 HP. Ford would have been wise to re-test the the Mustang V6 and up it's HP ratings if the #s come out higher.

...once again...

darn Japanese cars..

keep wondering why people give theyre hard earned money away like that to companies that could give a rats hiney about their employees, customers or the U.S.

FYI

As of Date this Engine is not Listed as a MUSTANG Engine. That does not mean it will not be Used in the Future but at the Moment there is no Mention of it in the Parts Catalog as is the Upcoming 4v 4.6 for 08.

Dry-Sump oil system?
 I took a closer look at the picture Brad put @ top of this thread. Brads picture shows the left side of the motor in great detail. On the back of the left side of the motor is what appears to be a black plastic fluid resevior with a filler cap. Could this be some sort of oil resevior in the back of the motor? Could they be going dry-sump-lubrication w/ this engine? That'd be a nice surprise. Talk about race on Sunday sell on Monday -- thats taking racing technology direct to your next minivan.

After owning a 3.0L OHV V-6 in a ranger, the 4.0 is a dream come true!

However that 3.5 is nice. But after coming from a 3.0 V-6, the 4.0 is a dream!

Have you actually "smoked" a V6 Mustang at the track (where you know the other driving is actually racing) or are you just magazine racing?

I have not, my wife will not let me drive her car, she says I am hard on them

My Wife raced my friends Mustang V6 last month at our local Drag strip shootout, Both automatics and yes my wifes 300m beat the Mustang V6. Both my friend and my wife have never raced so it was a fair run. They where there to watch me race bacuse I wanted a Video, I told my wife to show my friend how fast here car was, (I give him poop all the time that he should have got the GT), so he was said "cool I can beat your ollady". :nono: She did not like that comment, and said "lets go bozo" that by the way cost me 100 bucks. He now wan'ts to add a CAI, Tune, UD Pullies, Dual Exhaust, headers and a turbo... (He should have bought a GT)

I am going to talk her into racing again in the spring when our tack opens, she enjoyed it. (said it was almost better than sex)

What year model Mustang? Also, I don't think the outcome would be the same against V6 with a manual tranny (providing the driver had decent skills).

My friend has the torch red 2005 V6 Mustang Coup. Complete Stock with automatic trans, He is 36 yrs old (210lbs), had raced on street in the past. A good driver overall. (His Car always Looks AWSOME - ZANO all the way -) "Runs Regular Gas"

My Wife is 38 yrs old (145lbs), has the 2004 300M, with a super chip and CAI, with auto trans, (she likes using the AutoStick) is a good driver and likes to race upto the speed limit on the street. "a bit anoying as a passenger" (she does not like Rice, oh and BTW, she bought me my Mustang GT as a birthday present ) She has good taste
"Runs Premium Gas"

Yes you are correct, Driver skills could affect the outcome, skill is 80% of racing.

I just saw a article at the Ford Media site about the 3.5L engine making 265 HP on 87 octane. That's with the new SAE standard. On a related subject, the 2007 Nissan Maxima on premium makes 255 HP with the new SAE standard. This is a 10 HP loss from 2006. You can see this on the nissannews.com website. I think you're only talking about 4 HP going from regular to premium at this power level so the Ford 3.5 probably enjoys a 14 HP advantage over the Maxima. Considering Ford usually underrates engines, not bad at all.

If the D35 was optimised for 91 octane it HP should be around 275 .

I'm sure there will be a 91 octant tune in no time.

All the Japanese hp numbers are on premium, and on an optimistic dyno at best. if they can squeak 249.1 on 94 octane, its '250hp'. For Ford, '210hp' on bp regular = about 217 or so....

It should be interesting with a CVT, that tranny 'adds' about 20-40 hp because the engine never has to cycle from low rpm hp to high rpm horsepower. The 500 would jump to life.

I think the current CVT Ford uses is limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of 230 ft-lbs of torque though. This was brought up on an Edmunds forum and the verdict was that Ford will only be able to use the new 6-speed auto (or a manual of some sort) with this motor. The CVT will then disappear at least for now.

Only 10 HP over what 87 is? I think your looking closer to 300HP or more with a hi-po tune and super.

Yes, that does sound promising.

"V-6 produces 250 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque"

That'd make for a fun V6 Mustang.

Heck, that'd make a fun Fusion!

I agree. Less displacement (3.5L vs 4.0L), more horsepower/torque. It could be fun to . I feel like dancing.

Talking about a premium tune for the 3.5, I noticed a Camry gets 268 on regular and a ES350 gets 272 on premium. They have the same engine otherwise as far as I know. That's why I'm guessing, and for other reasons, a factory tune for premium will only get you 4-5 HP. I can see an after market tune getting 10HP. I think the engine can make 300 HP with a CR bump and direct injection. Lexus is making 306 HP with a 3.5L V-6. The biggest thing I see holding the engine back is marketing. 275 or 300 HP is to close to the 4.6L in terms of power. Hopefully Ford can switch to the 5.4 or a Hurricane derived engine as the base V-8.
