I purchased a very inexpensive floor jack that met my needs just fine. But after installation of the suspension mods, it doesn't fit under the lowered car. I have to use the stock scissor jack to lift the car a few inches, then I can put the floor jack under there and finish lifting until the floor stands fit. I did it once and that was one time too many.

So I'm hoping for recommendations on a new, quality floor jack that will fit under there. But I don't want to spend a mint, either, and the better jacks aren't cheap.

After searching and reading for about a week, the front-runner is a Summit low-profile:

why not do what I have to do. Just drive the car up onto some 2x6's and then there is enough room to use your floor jack.

I have to get mine up on 4x4s because of the combination of my chin spoiler, lowering, and my nice jack not being very low, but I just put the car up on a 2x6 (like Adrenalin mentioned) in front of a 4x4 and drive up on them.

You might try WalMart. I've seen a smaller Al jack that might work over there in the past that wasn't terribly expensive.

I think the 2x4 or 2x6 idea is probably the easiest. You could also use ramps to get it up a bit first. However, if you still want to get a jack, I just saw a cheaper one at my local Costco. I don't know if all Costcos have the same stuff, but it is all aluminum, low-profile like the Summit one, and is only $100. If you have a Costco membership, you may want to check it out.

Sears makes an awesome floor jack. It's the wide style jack with two wheels in back and a roller in front. It has the lowest jack pad I've found (able to fit under the jack point on my lowered GTI), it has the integrated jack handle just like a pro jack, and it's aluminum so it doesn't weigh a ton. Cost more than a WalMart jack, but not near as much as it probably should.

+1 on both using a 2x6, and the Costco jack. I used the former, until I purchased the latter. The jack is even low enough to allow me to use the jacking plates I had fab'd.

Here locally in Bama, both Sams wholesale and Costco have nice aluminum "race" jacks.
Race jack copies if you will. Both stores have them at approx. $100 - $125 a piece.
They look to be the same manufacture, just different anodized colors.
Have a low front solid roller to slide under lowered suspension, most raise to 36" - 48" heights.

Sears has a similar one in their tool catalog, however they want more for it.

Just 1½” further up off the ground will allow you to get under your car just like it was some garden-variety piece of Detroit Iron. A quick way to make a set of four Mini-ramps is to get an eight foot 2”x12”, cut it in half, then bevel-cut the halves into two-foot sections, each with a single 45-degree cut. Nail 2”x6”s as a stopper on the end of each Mini-ramp, and you’re done.
