Finally my Mustang came in......turned out to be a big disappointment
I ordered my Mustang Nov 6 2006. Today (Jan 23rd 2007) I received the phone call from the dealer, telling me that my Mustang came in. After patiently waiting for 11 weeks I got really exited. Within a couple of hours I was going to drive my own Mustang GT
. And two hours after the phone call I was in my car heading to the dealer
.
But shortly after I arrived at the dealer my excitement quickly turned around in a big disappointment
. Two of the options I had chosen didn't appear to be on the car as I ordered it. (1. Spoiler Delete Option. 2. Charcoal Dashboard Panel)
The weird part about it is that the Vehicle Order Confirmation I got from the salesman did not correspond with the data sheet dealer showed me. And what's making it more complicated is that the salesman I deled with when I ordered the Mustang is out of the running for a while (recuperating from chemo treatment).
At the dealer I told them that this was not the Mustang I ordered and that I was not even considering taking this car.
I want a Mustang since day one they came out with the current body style. I'm saving money to own one for more than 3 years. Now I finally have the money to buy me what I want and with the options I want. Why would I consider buying a car that doesn’t have all the options I want?
At this moment I'm really disappointed
and after the long waiting also frustrated
.
Tomorrow they will call me and tell me what they can do. I already told them that I don't want anything less than what I ordered, I don't want a car that's been relocated with several hundred miles on it (car that's been used for test driving). The only reasonable option I have in my mind is that they going to put a new order in for me. The only bad thing about that is, is that I'm afraid that I have to wait another 11 weeks.
Question:
1) What do you guys think I need to negotiate about?
2) Can I ask (do I have the legal rights) for some kind of compensation?

In terms of negotiation and compensation: they may give you a good deal if you can live with the spoiler and dash.
Or, they may just tell you that they can order you another one. It pretty much depends on if they think they can sell the one you ordered, or if you are willing to live with that one (ie-supply and demand...they may not want it and may be stuck with it for awhile; so, they may make you a deal you can't refuse).

it will not be fun to have to wait for another car. anopther member had his car come in the wrong color! they ordered another car for him. 11 weeks is a lot shorter than some of the past waiting times. mabey they will give you a break on something when they call you. ask them to add something you might not have ordered on the first one if you wanted an op[tion but did not want to add the cost at the time. just a suggestion. good luck
As someone that also has one on order with a dealer who is not the best listener, I feel like there's less than a 50/50 chance mine will come in exactly how it was ordered. (I also want spoiler delete and gray dash panel.)
FYI, they might be able to change the truck with a non-spoiler car (I've met two others who had this done). The dash panel may be another story.
If you don't want it don't take it. It's your money and they didn't hold up their end of the contract.
On the other hand, the dark IUP isn't all that. The vents and interior door handles don't go too well with it. Then again, that brushed silver IUP looks like it was inspired by the inside of a beer can.
I'd rather not have the spoiler on my convertible. Then again, I like the spoiler on my convertible. No I don't. Yes I do. Anyway, It's like that. Some days it's awesome, others it's an obstruction in the rearview. But hey, it blocks SUV headlights. Then again, I can't see to parallel park.
To summarize, I think you should cheat on your wife with her best friend. Glad I could help.

While I have bought new cars before, my 05 was the first I ordered from the factory - its worth the wait. If I recall correctly, I've read on this site and I bet somebody can confirm - if its a misorder, the dealer can get a priority for a build
I personally WOULD NOT recommend a trunk change out. Yes it is simple. But, technically it isn't the car that the window sticker says it is. The spoiler delete is an option, and it won't be displayed on the sticker like it should. Also the paint match may be a little off depending on the color of the car (ie-Tungsten).
Obviously, this means absolutely nothing to someone if they don't plan on keeping their car "factory," or easily changeable back to factory.
My response though is to look at Barrett-Jackson auctions. Original options on window stickers make a big difference in 30 years (if the car will even last that long). Imagine if a car had the wrong wheels on it, because they changed them out for a different set when it was first bought.
Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. But, I have to agree with Outlander. Even though it's not exactly want you wanted, maybe you could compromise, and it may end up better in the long run.

I'll bet if you read through your paperwork, there is a plethora of legal terms keeping Ford from legally being responsible for brandishing that EXACT vehicle you ordered in any given time. This allows room for error, like in your case.
The best you can do is have them re-order a new one with the right options, and ask what kind of a deal Ford will give them because of the inconvenience.
Your other option is to take the vehicle that they have there. Find out what a local body shop would charge to fill the trunk, and repaint. Tell them if they'll pay towards that you can live with the dash or something. Just get a good deal for the inconvenience, like stated above.
NO trunk swap NO dash swap. You are paying for a new car, get a new car. Fresh off the assembly line.

Between trunk swap or filling the holes and painting, I would take a trunk swap anyday. Filling and repainting is just asking for trouble regarding paint match, clear coat issues in some years, painting issues, etc etc etc
If you reorder, see if Ford Corporate will give the order a Priority Code of 1 since Ford made the mistake. That way, your new order should be picked up the first week and be in your hands after about 6 weeks total.
WOW. I guess I should consider myself lucky, my GT/CS is on order per my specs and My agreement gives me the option of inspecting the vehicle and agreeing to take delivery before I plunk down one nickel. I have no obligation to buy if its not exactly what I ordered.....
+1. My understanding is that replacements for order screw-ups get priority at the factory. I once accepted a car that wasn't exactly what I ordered and later regretted it.

Glad on the red
