Extended Warranty & Sealant?

What do you guys think of paying the dealership for an extended warranty, paint sealant, fabric sealant, and leather sealant?

We just picked up our new 2007 Mustang GT convertible last night. We told them we would think about getting the extended warranty ($2,500 for 7 years/70,000 miles) and the sealant treatments ($895).

We're thrilled with our new Mustang! The dealership had told us she would arrive on February 7th but they called us yesterday (Jan. 19th).

We will post pictures soon.

Thanks. You all on the Mustang Source Forums have been very helpful to us through our selection and ordering process.

$2,500 for an 7yr/70k extended warranty? That's a rip-off - what's the warranty provider?

www.fordwarrantys.com sells the 7yr/75k Ford ESP top-of-the-line PremiumCare warranty with a $0 deductible for ~$1,400.

Skip it all. Paint protection, fabric sealant, etc. are all pure profit for the dealer that they try to push you to buy in the finance dept. I'd also skip the warranty - you can always buy it later when your bumper to bumper warranty is about to expire, and you can probably get a better rate. Plus, what happens if you don't have the car for 7 years? Say you get tired of it or it gets stolen or totaled? You might get part of the premium refuned but it still won't make up for the up front cost.

Don't waste the money on the "paint sealant" - what a joke.

Yep, skip it all..... You already get 3 yr. 36,000.....so they are wanting to sell you 4 more years or 34,000 miles for $2500. You can do alot better.....A WHOLE LOT BETTER.

What they all said. That $895 "package" costs the dealer about $40 in materials, applied in a few hours by lot workers earning maybe $10/hour. You can buy a can of Scotchguard yourself and apply it - that is what they are doing. And it won't cost you nearly $900.

Ditto on the extended warranty. Buy that puppy online and save a bundle.

Skip the treatments and paint sealer, etc. I would go for the for Ford ESP, but not from your dealer. Some dealers try to sucker you into thier own plan too. Its a good umbrella to have if you plan to keep the car over 50k miles. Try on line www.fordwarrantys.com. Got a real good deal plus another $100 off their internet price.

Really? I did not know this, and it certainly was not the case on the '05 (upping the powertrain from the 3 and 36).

Thanks everyone for the good info and saving us some money. We're passing on dealer's extended warranty, paint sealant, fabric sealant, and leather sealant.

Thats correct, it was not the case in 2005, it started in late '06.
