if there is a .5 second difference on the track that means that power must be VERY similiar and that a tire swap will even things up. Remember that the M3 is going to have very sticky tires (ala Z06 or EVO) straight from the factory.

I wouldn't be sure.
Wider stickier tires and adjustable swaybars do a lot to the Z. I would consider them even because of the GT's power advantage.

great job on the info guys! and i must say the Legend Lime looks almost as good as Windveil Blue on the GT. i didnt like it on the V6. and i think it will run with the 350Z. dont think it has the power to go up against the M3. but it is definitely good to hear how well it did. can imagine what will happen with SVT then. and titanium is a great offer for 06. cant wait to see the rest of the colors

OK EVERYONE LISTEN UP!
This is important...
In the article, Hau Thai Tang stated that the Mustang was 40lbs heavier than the Mach 1. We need to confirm the Mach 1's weight! WE have had different weights the mach 1 has been quoted to have...
WE need to establish the weight.
BEFORE YOU POST AGAIN IN THIS THREAD.
Let's establish the GT's weight. this is important. For now on, this thread is for weight discussion only. Until we figure out the weight. Once we do so, then go on and discuss the rest of the article...
THANKYOU!

the M3 IS the Cobra's target challenge car (which is why they are testing against it), so if the GT is only 0.5 slower -- the Cobra or Shelby's are going to crush its euro behind...
final note: we are all really excited (thanks guys for a great surprise) about this upcoming launch -- but don't get down on the $28K GT, it took on a high performance specially track tuned $43K M3 and showed both its heritage and muscle!

If the stock GT is only .5 behind it now, which I will wait for real world results to confirm this, then the 06-07 Cobra should easily be able to destroy the "current M3" without too radical of a price climb. Now if SVT is shooting at the yet to be released M3 then the Cobra is going to need more work done to it, hence more cost to potential Cobra owners. I'm trying to figure out what MSRP Ford is shooting for with the Cobra.

Brad, Dan, and Steve:
Thanks for the site and thanks for all the great information. I've been watching the site for a while and this is my first post. I'm currently stuck in Iraq and although I've already ordered a 05 GT through a military sales guy in germany, I've had very little to go on besides the order guide. You guys have really cleared up a lot of questions for me and I appreciate all the time and effort you've put in to keeping the rest of us informed. I would still in the dark on a lot of issues if it wasn't for this great site and all of those that have contributed to it. I'll see you all on the road in my new stang when I get back to the states.

The fact that they are looking at the M3 in comparison shows how well this car will handle.

the limited edition M3 CSL with carbon body, modified engine and some other weight savings has about 350hp, weighs ~2850 lbs (standard M3: ~3460)... it's the fastest BMW available at the moment (well... it's not being sold anymore, and the M5 will hit the lots soon), it lapped the Nurburgring northern loop in less than ten minutes (world record).

Great job guys on report to us more on 05 Mustang.
Is that Lime Green GT a production Mustang or is it a preproduction Mustang GT?

Every piece on it is a production piece.. they are currenlty doing a pilot build of 100 cars, with a run of 50 already built. this car was built only a few days before the show. Apparantley a lot of these pilot build cars will be "media cars" for testdrives, etc.

Exactly. Steve and I talked about asking him outside but felt that we were taking too much of his time.
