Engine oil filter threads

Hello,

Today while changing my oil (2005 GT), I unscrewed the oil filter and noticed that the part where the oil filter screws to the engine (post with male threads on the engine block that screws to the center opening of the filter) was easily unscrewed from the engine block. I just screwed it back as tight as I could using my fingers and then put the new oil filter on with no further problems or leaks.

I never noticed this in other cars. Is this normal? Should the threaded post by tightened to a specific torque?. This was the second oil change for my 'stang, previous filter was not overly tight, previous and replacement filter were OEM.

Thanks in advance,

U

That doesn't sound normal...I've never heard of the oil filter center post coming off that easily...

Oh man!, I sure would like to take it to the shop and say: factory warranty. But I just do not trust the mechanics there to tighten a single bolt on my cars. I would definitely take it in for some major warranty work, but not for something so simple yet crucial as the lubrucation system.

Yeah but for something like that, if you lose your oil while driving, you'll definitely be taking it in for major work...like a new motor.

I don't know if will make you feel any better, but I've had other vehicles where that has come out (AMC and an old honda). I put blue locktite on it and screwed it back in and never had an issue.
