Engine Backfires
I just got my 06 GT Vert about 2 weeks ago and have put 290 miles on it. When the car is running cold, it seems to "backfire" when I rev up the engine. Kinda sounds like a gun going off or "popping" from the exhaust. This happens only when it's running cold and at lower RPM's and tends to go away after warming up. Anyone else experience something like this? Is it something that is happening because the engine's not broken in? The problem isn't too bad, just hope it eventually goes away.
This is normal. Every new mustang that I've seen including mine is louder and backfires more just after startup until it warms up. Until it warms up just enjoy those throaty backfires.
Remember though to let your engine warm up before reving it up to much.

umm any car does that. You're supposed to wait until the car warms up before you rev it. It's also bad for the engine to beat on the car while it's running cold. Engines need a certain amount of heat in order to run efficently.
Engines run rich when cold. Extra fuel can build up in the exhaust and intake, and when reved, it burns off with a pop. It's much more noticable on our cars because of it being a healthy V8 with dual exhaust.
With a louder exhaust it can be fun. Everytime I start the car cold, and then drive a little ways out of the parking lot in first gear, when I let off the gas to come to a stop (without pushing in the clutch) the exhasut goes :
op, POP, pop, POP:: It sounds like a shootout between the tailpipes! About as loud as a .22 probably.
