Yea seriously, who the heck calls Ford to ask about problems? Go to the dealership. The 3650 is a noisy whiney transmission, albiet very strong, and clutch chatter and gear whine in 1st and 2nd is pretty much normal for one.

Whiney... noisy... chatter... whine... You consider this 'normal'? Are you
high?

Since this is my first Ford product since I bought a 1986 Escort GT, I had just assumed that Ford had learned how to build a 'world-class' car.

If this is normal, then the people who set-up the rear-ends for Ford haven't learned how to build a differential. This goes for the transmission manufacturer. This is supposed to be quality?

As far as comparing the Mustang to import cars, give me a break. I've owned many imports including a 95 M3 which I still drive. I've only had the car to the dealer once when the washer motor stopped working. 10 years old and it still cruises over 90mph all day, no rattles, vibrations, noises... that is quality. Maybe Ford should start by learning the defenition of quality!

Could this be why they say Ford stands for 'Found On Road Dead?

I find it hard to believe that a guy that waits for and then buys a new mustang would act like this. You are way overboard. I smell soemthing fishy here. I mean come on now why would you even pay for it and drive it off the lot if it was that bad? Why did you not take it right back to the dealer? Oh, thats right you dont trust anyone but you to work on that low quality piece of crap ford that was left on the road right? Give me a break.

Got any pictures of you and your car? I agree with falchulk. I find it hard to believe that a proud new owner of a new Mustang would talk like this about it. Especially without having it looked at by the dealer.

If you don't trust the dealerships service, why not take it to one of your ASE certified service depts.? It is my understanding that they will pay for warranty work done by non-Ford service (check that first of course).

You're missing the point here. There is nothing fishy about this at all. I ordered the car very early. I plunked down over $29,000 of hard earned money. All I heard from Dearborn was that the delays getting the car was due to all of the quality control they were doing on the car to make sure that "we get this one right the first time". They even double checked mine for 25 miles. I'm guessing they feel this are normal noises. :geek:

I bought this car for personal reasons which I won't go into, and plan to keep it forever. It will sit next to my 69 Boss 302 (first car I purchased) and my 1986 Escort GT with under 20k on it which hasn't been driven since May of 1988 (gift from my Father after college). This car has huge sentimental value to me, and that is why I'm so frustrated.

I drove the car one week-end to a funeral putting less than 300 miles on it. The car is now sitting in my garage with a cover on it, enclosed in a car capsule. I'll post some pictures if anyone cares to see.

As you can tell, I'm quite the fanatic. Picky...?...maybe. But I'm also very qualified in the automotive world to know that this is not what Ford wanted when they released this car.

... on a side note, does anyone know if the transmission or rear-end is a carry-over from previous models, or are they a new design?

Hmmm, I hope to not have any trouble with my new baby... I had heard people laugh when they find out I am buying the new 05. However, they also know that my 99 hasnt given me ANY trouble until her fifth year. I understand that the 99 was not new from the ground up, it was however a big change from the previous years. Even with the trouble this year (clutch, amp, rear defroster) I still have no whining, no rattling, no creaking, nada. Cant complain much!

Just hit a thousand miles... and not a problem. Except for the squeaking brakes, like I mentioned earlier in the thread. Which are easily fixable when I have time to bring it to the dealer.

Whos laughing? I hope its not people who 'hot-rod' econobox disposable import compacts...... :R:

I'll tell you what, after having 4 WRX's traded in with incredible amounts of problems on each one(I have an 04 with 21k miles right now that needs 5600 worth of work-turbo, exhaust, electronics, rear diff, and tranny are all wasted) that it is number 1 on my list for the ultimate piece-of-poo car. I beat the living tar out of all of my mustangs from day one and never had a major componet break.

Actually, I am not sure who exactly... It happened at my birthday party. Hubby presented me with a brochure for the 05, and my DORA. As I squealed, I heard someone laugh say, "OMG your not buying a FORD are you?" I heard another person say, "Well, her Stang is in good shape, and she drives it like its a race car." Most of the people at my party own american cars... But, I am the only Ford owner. My best friend drives a stock Honda Civic. But, I gotta love the gal her plate frame reads"If your gonna ride my hiney, at least pull my hair"

To all thier credit, not a single one owns a "hot rod econobox". (that was at the party. I do have a friend whose hubby races Hondas/Acuras) They are mostly truck drivers, GMCs, Dodges, Chevys. Even the Civic driver laughs at the riced out Hondas.

I still endure ribbing from them on occasion, but they all admit the 05 is a sweet looking ride, and are happy for me.

Yes the transmission is a carryover, and the the rear end is bacically a carry over design with some parts upgrades. Ford went to 31 spline axles and I think stronger axle tubes. What is not a carryover is the 2 piece drive shaft with no U joints, but I don't know if that would contribute to the noise problem or not.

OK, I still don't get it. If you're putting it in a bubble, then all of your problems really don't matter. You haven't said if you are going to take it out once a year, or leave it in or what you are going to do. Sounds like you are going to leave it in the bubble. If you're going to do that, you have other issues relating to storage. Gear whine would be the least of my worries.

I find it hard to believe that being an ACE ASE certified guy that you have to ask people on this board if the rear is a carry over or a new design. Being an accomplished mechanic, wouldn't you already know that just by looking at it?
