Drained Tranny Fluid from pan, can I drive it 2 miles to shop?? Or have it towed?
Drained Tranny Fluid from pan, can I drive it 2 miles to shop?? Or have it towed?
Not quite sure why I allowed my son to try and change the oil in my stang, but I did. Instead of him draining the oil, he decides to drain the transmission fluid from the tranny pan. So my question is, do I need to have my car towed now to the shop?? Or can I drive it the 2 miles to there?
Absolutely do not drive the car. Both my Mustangs are manual transmissions which have fill plugs, but I understand that the automatics maybe don't have a fill plug? If they do, then just get make-up fluid and a pump and refill it yourself. If not, you may have to have it towed to a shop to get the fluid pumped-in from a cooling line or something like that. Any autobox users know further here?
Also, we learn from our errors. It is good that your son was trying.

Do not drive... tow there is no way to fill the trans without the special tool. (some have pulled the pan, filled it, then carefully put it back full before making the trip to the dealer) To me it would be easier just to have it towed to the dealer .
As already stated, do not drive the car.

Would it have plunged Ford into insolvency to have added a normal dipstick to the automatic Trans?
