I've read rumors that the 18" wheels come with different suspension.

True?

Thanks

According to the press release, yes. I think its up at www.media.ford.com and on this website. I hope they tune the rear shocks for wheel hop.

from the press release:

"Mustang GT customers can now also choose between four different wheel and tire packages – the most ever offered on a V-8 powered Mustang – including two new 18-inch wheels and tires complemented by unique suspension tuning."

I'm guessing that they're going to adjust the tuning so that GTs with the 18s don't ride harsher than GTs with the 17s, but that's about it. I wouldn't expect much more than that.

Best thing would be to get one of our parts counter guys to check which part numbers are different with the 18" wheels.

I would guess different shocks, I doubt they would change the spring rates.

I would like to know exactly what suspension parts get changed, especially since I have slapped 18's onto my car.

Could they possibly get rid of that Gawd-awful fender gap?

I would bet that they will use the softer springs from the GT vert with the 18's to minimize the ride harshness. Just a guess though

Not certain that makes sense. Would that mean for the vert the 18" rims would not come with a suspension change?

Definitely need clarification on this. Wonder why it's not a sticky anymore...

Sorry it took so long i forgot my password to get in the site. I did a little checking and it looks like they only changed the struts. I couldn't tell if they changed the springs because they go by spring codes in the catalog.

If the struts are tuned to reduce the ride harshness of the 18-inch wheels, it would be interesting to try throwing a set of 17-inch wheels on there later and see how it affects the ride.

I guess we'll find out when the first person sells his 18-inch wheels and goes aftermarket, perhaps buying 17's...

Reading this it says the 18" tires and wheels are new, not the suspension.

Actually, no it doesn't.

It says the 18-inch wheels and tires are new, and are "complemented by unique suspension tuning."

So why is my comment wrong? My comment was right as I first stated it.

"The 18" tires and wheels are new." The word NEW is used so therefore they mean the tires and wheels are new.

"complemented by unique suspension tuning." There is no mention of a NEW suspension. It does say the suspension is unique. However "UNIQUE" does not necessarily mean NEW.
