I was wondering if you have to qualify for the amount of the car before ordering it or when it arrives? I have a few items on my credit report that I am currently disputing that are bringing my credit score way down. I'm worried they won't let me order it if they in fact have to run a credit check first.

Most dealers don't, usually they just take your deposit and order it. I would not want to do business with a dealer who runs a credit check before they order it.

Yeah, them getting the car to you, and qualifying for finances are two different beasts entirely. I wouldn't do business with a dealer that did that either.

1 ) Too many checks on your credit drops your score.

2 ) Does the dealership think it'll be a HARD car to sell?

I agree, to a point. If you aren't going to have the financial ability to buy the vehicle it isn't fair to the dealer, or other customers, to tie up a unit of allocation on your order. If you know you can get the money fine, order it, but if you are in doubt, get pre-approved in fairness to everyone.

Yea I know I can definitely handle the payments it's just that I'm not finished with the dispute process with the credit bureau's. Once these items come off, I should have a somewhat decent credit score and a decent credit score to get a car. Especially since the car probably won't even arrive until January some time so that's plenty of time to get the items off.

I would also agree, to a point. If the individual were buying something that might be harder to sell for a new stang, then perhaps. But if someone is really questioning if the banks will approve cause of whatever current situation, prolly is best for all involved to atleast ask a bank what they would think.

I for one wouldn't want to order exactly what I want for a car, just to not have done my homework and watch someone else drive my car off... :notnice:

I just got back from ordering and my guy asked if I wanted to go ahead and get approved but I told him my situation with the disputes so he said I could wait until it arrives. $1000 deposit though which was pretty hefty. My fiance can't believe I just did it but she doesn't understand what this car means to me so I just ignore her.

I doubt ignoring her is going to make that any better. On a positive note though, several people have had to put down a deposit of 1k, severl of 500, and severl with none at all, so the 1k isn't unusual.

dealers also do not want a bunch of orders tied up with people that cant buy the car either. Most likely no credit check unless they are 'sketchy', and sketchy people know who THEY are.

Well kevinb, I can promise you I'm not "sketchy" and my credit is Pure Platinum. Yet, they ran my credit before they ordered the car. I had to also put down $1000 dollars. Both things were fine in my book because I would cover my bases too if I was major Ford dealer like the place I bought from is. Maybe that's standard for most places, I don't know. The guy seemed like he had done it a millions times before, and I was treated very well. Maybe it's because I'm 26? Again, I don't know and don't care. My credit is great and they asked me before they even touched it if it would be ok to approve me. Unlike some others, I said, "Not a problem at all". I just want the car. lol

As an aside, my salesman came back and said, "I don't usually say this to people, but your credit is golden. The guy that checks that took the shortest time I've seen him take on one of those". Made me happy, that's for sure. B)

When I ordered mine all they asked for was a few hundred dollars deposit. I put up 500 anyway as it makes the deal look better. There was no credit check involved, but I was asked that a week or 2 before delivery to come in and get the financing all taken care of. I thought that was resonable and I don't have a problem with it. Im just not sure if im going to go through Ford or my local credit union.

Everyone buying a new car should check out this site carbuyingtips.com
There is some great information on there about financing and other tips.
You could get your financing online like this guy suggests and see if the dealer can beat it. Just a thought.

I gave my dealer a $500 deposit. When I was ready to take delivery, the salesman told me that their finance wants to run a credit check, he then told me I wouldn't have a problem since I had a high (he told me the number) credit score. I have to assume they ran a credit check at the time of order and at the time of delivery
