Dealer tried to buy me out of my deal

When I was checking my dealers inventory I saw they had a Coupe in my ext. and interior color. So my wife, daughter and I when to see the combo. It didn't have the IUP, but the combination of ext and int was great. I'm very happy with what I chose. While we were looking, the New General Manager asked if I wanted to sale it back to them. I said your kidding right? He said"No we sold it to you too cheap"($500 over invoice). He then offered me $500 to back out of the deal. I said No I really want the car. I still wasn't sure if he was serious. They still have a new 03 SVT Vert on the lot. I told him I had been going back and forth between the cars, but I offered a really low price on the SVT. He said "What did you offer?" I said $28,000, he said if I offered it to you now for that price would you take it? I said No I had decided on the 05 Vert. This dealership (Bob Dunn Ford, Greensboro, NC) is now marking up all the 05's $4,000.:notnice: He also told me when I get the car I can take it to auction and get more than MSRP for it. I thought he seemed a little ticked that I got the deal I did. I told him I had a better offer from another dealer, but I liked the people I had been working with. He wanted to know the dealership so he could buy all their cars.(Jeff, you reading this. LOL) He asked their name and I told him I couldn't remeber the name, but it was in NY. To tell you the truth I was kind of offended by the whole thing.

Jeff - if you havent already, be sure to check into the AQHA $500 rebate on your Mustang. That'll just make your deal soooo much sweeter! Check the threads here for the details. I'm getting my car at $500 over invoice like you are - but then the $500 is deducted right there at the point of sale. How Sweeeeet!!

Ok, I called the new GM today and asked him point blank if they were going to sell the car out from under me. He said "No, its yours." I asked him if I needed to come in and make a deposit, He said "No, its ok. I understand your concern." Well hopefully thats the case.

You best get a hold of the order number and try to get the vin # ASAP. There is little concern for the customer, loyalty, or ethics in the car selling business.

Heh that's funny. I just picked up my car this weekend from Capital Ford in Raleigh. Paid 100 over invoice, and with the college grad discount I ended up buying it for 400 below invoice. They have markups on their in-stock units, but i ordered mine thru a friend in fleet sales.
Seriously, I will sell my car for MSRP and order another one tomorrow if someone wants it that bad. I'd be more than happy to make $3000 and wait a couple more months. PM Me if interested.

With the double dip on sales tax and price increase, doesn't seem to me you would come out that much ahead of the game. Also, that college grad rebate is a 1 and done program, you can't get it again.

Jeff- if I were you I'd go in and insist on putting something down....kind of force the issue. Maybe he's a straight up guy, but why take a chance? Just my .02

Yeah, I didn't dig on Bob Dunn Ford's business ethic when I checked em out for my Foci last year. Kinda dishonest. Went with the Ford dealer in Lexington instead. Got an under invoice deal and no b.s. To heck with these local guys! If I do a GT mustang this year I'll be getting up with Karpro!
