I got the impression from a couple Georgia dealers (one large, one medium)that "allocation" of the 2005's mean't that they get one GT for every four V6's. I don't know if this is correct but it sounded as if they are only allotted one GT for four V6's on the lot... OR, that every four V6's sold they get another GT.

Just a little off that subject, the bigger dealer called 2 weeks ago and said "we have your car." Not the exact one I ordered but just happened to get one just like it... they did (and right off the truck!)... Min Grey GT, auto, the works, seats and steering wheel still wrapped in plastic, styrofoam squares taped outside the doors, bubble-wrap slammed in the trunk! It was perfect! only missing side air-bags... I told the dealer I don't plan to get hit from the side anyway... so I'll take it!!!!

We drive it up to the sales office, babababa bad! and then the dumb-A sales manager says... "we can't do it on X-plan!" I was almost willing to cough up $2-3000 more but just could not bring myself to do it. So here I wait! :bang:

I know some of you folks work for Ford... anyone know EXACTLY what the 2005 "dealer allocation" means?

We are allocated total Mustang units not GT vs. V6 or coupe vs. vert. We are free to order them any way we would like. The problem is with the commodities. If you look at my report from last week you can see that GT was at around half. That means if I had 2 units to be scheduled last week 1 could be a GT and 1 had to be a V6 (both could have IUP though). The factory doesn't break the allocation up by model but the commodities dictate what gets built.

Hope this helped.

That makes sense, but I'm sure dealers want/need to get rid of 04's and also move V6's... I got the impression that that the GT (IUP) demand made Ford "ration" them. Just had me wondering how they decided when & where.
Thanks K-pro!

My dealer told me that Ford limited production of GTs to 30% of total to satisfy Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards set by congress. With so many SUVs in Ford's lineup, they need to bring down their overall gas mileage by producing more V6 stangs, and fewer GTs. Otherwise, as a corporation, Ford has fines of some sort levied against them for not conforming. Does this sound right?

My dealer told me that it had something to do with the 04 GT sales. According to them, when the 05s were being produced (before being sold) they ordered lots of 04 GTs and "saturated the market with 04s". Therefore, when it was time to receive the 05's Ford allocated more GTs to them than to other dealers in the area. There must a bit of truth to it because I saw my first GT (in person) there and just about everytime I go there I see at least one. I saw two yesterday 1 Black No IUP but had the upgraded SW and Auto Shift lever and one legend lime parchment int. loaded with spoiler delete both automatics. They were the first in the area to sell without the 5grand mark-up. Most of the other dealers in the area have mostly V6s. FYI I'm in SoCal
