Dead battery !
#1
Went out to the garage today to play a new Cd's in my new $25 K stereo system....and guess what the battery was dead! At first the Cd was skipping around and I thought I had a bad radio like some of you other guys. The radio display then read LOW BATTERY before it went out completly. Then I tried to fire the stang and she was dead! Luckily I had a powerpack recharger and was able to start her up......................tommorrow I go to the Ford dealer to demand a new battery. It had been last driven 4 days prior. BTW the onboard diagnostic system check said CHARGING SYTSEM OK, no mention of battery.
Anyone else had this problem?

I went to look at a new ustang GT about a month ago, it was in the showroom at a local dealer and the battery was dead. Salesman said between the power seat and the radio it went dead within 1 week just sitting there. Im guessing alot of people must have been looking at her. Take your Stang back to the dealer and get the battery and charging system checked.

I could see that with lots of opening the door (sealing and unsealing everytime) etc
What about the battery and system having the 'rundown protection'
etc

I forgot about that....I had a mechanic (not ford) tell me the batteries in the new cars are usually bottom of the barrel lowest bidder items. This sounds like something else though. I'm sure it would be twice as bad in cold weather areas.

shoulda seen what the windows did when the battery was dead.... god knows we've read that question a million times... "what happens when you open the door when the battery is dead?" oh well... maybe someone elses' battery will go dead so we'll know for sure......

I put 89k year round Wisconsin miles on a '94 V6 Mustang and 131k on my '98 and never had either factory battery give me any troubles. My 2004 appears to again have a similar battery as the other 2 did ... Motorcraft BXT-59-540 (540 CCA) and have had no problems with it either.
Is there really that much more crap on the 2005's pulling juice from the battery when the car is off ??

Folks-
I went away for 8 days, and my car (locked in my garage) had a dead battery. There is something going on here. I haven't done anything to test it out otherwise since. Keeps a charge overnight, and I drive it almost every day.
One thing I was worried about was my SCT flash, wondering if that had anything to do with it (bad code might keep something on that it shouldn't?).

Interesting, one thing just as bad as extreme cold is extreme heat, which is what I face out here in the desert. Even good batteries go to hades within 2 years out here... Think I'll be looking into one of them super-duper cool looking batteries for this one.
That or finding out what the heck is draining these..... if it's widespread.

The car door still opens if the battery is dead, there is flex in the window and only the TOP is held (not the sides). So it pops right out. I didn't notice what happens on closing.
BUt it DOESN'T lock you out or prevent door closure. I really am surprised by how many people are rabid about this question!

My 99 had battery issues. It was a amp thing, it was drawing too much power when it was turned off. Got the amp replaced, and viola' problem solved.
My 05 has sat for a couple days at a time, and no trouble. Havent left her for a week yet to see.

Mine has sat untouched for 9 days straight (car covered in an unheated garage). Just went out a minute ago to check and it started right up
Temps have been in the 30s (daytime) and teens at night.

Stored for winter, the GT sat for 4 weeks. Opened door a dozen times for showing friends during that time. Started right up the other day.
98 Cobra still on factory battery, will sit all winter long battery disconnected and fires up on its own. Thinking of replacing next summer maybe.

Well, dealer is of no help. they tested and showed battery OK, but mechanic told me the cold cranking AMPS could be higher on the standard battery Ford uses. Looks like Ford is going with cheapest batttery they can find. :bang:
I will let it sit for 4 days and try again...may have to contact Ford with my disatisfaction...my local dealer stinks! :notnice:
BTW the windows still inched down when door was opened even though not enough juice to start the car.
