This is for all you fans who've been so (im)patient, LOL. Seriously, No SVT until WHEN?? 'Verts delyaed How Long?? We still don't have any idea what the Special Edition will be, let alone when its getting here. Saleen And Roush have been "working on it" for awhile, but we've yet to see any real teasers. So Who's dragging their feet more?

Vote for Produciton Mustang includes Convertible or even Coupe, if you're Really Impatient. Special Edition can be Shelby, BOSS, whatever you want.

Again, this is not a Mustang-basher. Usually, the one people want the most is the one they feel is taking the longest.

i don think any are taking too long. sure i want them to be here already, but i also want a quality product. it seems kind of reasonable their taking so long for the SEs and Saleens and what not. i mean c'mon, cut them some slack, they're working on a completely redesigned car. they'll have to experiment with the new car and learn plenty of new things that might be different than on the 03s and 04s. as long as they at least have the vert out by the time i can drive (legally) they're on time.

I wish SVT would just show us something, this must be the best kept secret ever at Ford. I saw prduction mules up close and personal four months before the January show. Someone has got to have seen a SVT mule somewhere.

I read a story in Fortune today that said Bill Ford is doing an incredible job at the helm...not since his grand father Edsel has ford been more quality driven. I think Bill will deliver a quality product. He has repeated that if he only had one car to drive...it'd be a mustang. If he's making a mustang he'd drive...I'll wait too. We're talking quality...like a lexus version of a mustang.

I have to agree with what Future 9'er said about wanting a quality product.
Does seem odd not having a convert out with the coupe.

(anybody know what the deal is with that?? )

This is the first new generation car I've had to wait for more than a couple months. I don't remember the '94s taking this long(out by 7/93 I think). My 97 Wrangler 6/96, (built 3/96); 2000 11/99 (built 8/99); 2003 10/03 (built 8/02). My 2003 ION 3 was ordered Christmas Eve and ready by late January(1st released 8/02). I even remember my Dads '91 Caprice was ready in August of '90.

I believe it has something to do with most verts are chopped where this one has some different stuctural additions. More like it's own design.. I may be wrong but I think I read that somewhere on this site..

Personally, I think marketing has something to do with it. Thier sales for convertibles wont be great in the fall (at least in the north), so they can get the coupe out there, and on the roads, instead of having convertibles sitting during the winter.

Not only is it different structurally, it also is a huge process to get something like a car to start going down an assembly line. Look at it this way...

In a unionized plant, like the new mustang plant, there are about 250 working days per year and I believe that they are only running 1 shift per day for the new mustangs. so that gives you about 2000 hours of production time for the entire year...

so as a result, they will have 150000(my best guess at expected production for 05MY) divided by 2000 hours gives you 75 mustangs per running hour. This is not exactly slow (1 car every 48 seconds.) And that is before you consider things like downtime from tools breaking or operator fault or whatever else can go wrong on an assembly line.

Then if you take into account the fact that this plan was designed and built in less than 11 months, you have to expect that they wont run perfectly right off the bat.

So now take that and double it because the convertible will have it's own body style and build process and you will begin to see why the vert is going to be a few months later than the coupe.

It is actually pretty standard for verts to be released after the coupe. look at the 350Z, didnt even come till Second/Third model year. Or there is the TT vert, also following model year.

And you are correct about demand as well, if you look at the 99MY, there were about 35k verts and 100k coupes.

Now that I think about it....all 3 of my Ponies (verts) were purchased in Fall or Winter months. 68...Sept 87; 92GT...late Dec 92 (after Xmas= got Jan inspection) 99 vert...Sept 99, right after one o four club's car shows.
