I want to get a sonic blue gt convert and I LOVE the way the tan interior looks with IUP (see pic) but I would perfer a black top as I don't know if I would like the look of a tan top on such a light blue. In the order guide ford lets you do this with most colors except sonic blue.

So if I wanted to swap out the tan top for a black oem top once I get the car is it a big deal? How much is the top/install...can the dealer do it? Would I risk it not being done right?

Thanks for any help!

I saw the vert V6, windveil blue with the parchment top. Trust me... you probably won't have a problem with it unless you really like black tops.

The material cost for a black top if you buy cloth will most likely be around $750. Labor should be around $500. With a reputable shop you will get good results but I believe factory is always the best job. Don't loose your boot cover. The previous design costs around $500 for a new one!

Having had a tan top in the past, I would say definitely get the black. Especially with a dark color car (like the SB). But, the dirt really shows on the tan, and it is tough to clean.

See....you've got me drooling all over that picture because the top spape is just so awesome but that top just looks too light! Having had a '73 mustang with a white top I know that light tops are a PAIN to clean (dirt just doesn't wash away, you have to scrub)...and black tops just look more sleek I think.
Of course I would never do anything to my new mustang that would take away from it's "factory freshness" so I'll probably just leave the tan top...

That top color I saw seems to be lighter than the 1999-2004 Mustangs. I've rented a few and seen countless more....

It looks really sharp. I know what you mean about cleaning it. I live in Houston so unfortunately for me I don't think I want the Charcoal interior with black top even thought it looks great.
