The interior fabric of my convertible top was hanging up on the trim behind the rear shoulder (safety) belts when I put the top down. Also, the top was very tough to pull closed at the windshield header when I put the top up. My dealer made adjustments and now the fabric doesn't hang up on the shoulder-belt towers and the top is a LITTLE easier to close.

About closing the top, the tech told me the tops have a little variation from the factory and some are easier to close than others -- my tough-to-close one does feel like it's stretched tighter when up than another 05 convertible I felt, which may be an advantage at highway speed, I guess.

I love the car, though.

What have they adjusted for the fabric catching on the rear seatbelts, my dealer is telling me that nothing can be adjusted for this issue. If you have an idea I could go back to them and see if they could do the same.

Sorry. No idea what they adjusted. My dealer's convertible "specialist", a tech named Alvin, initially said to raise and lower the top 4 or 5 times in a row to expell air from the system so it would go closer to the windshield header when closing. I did that once with no noticable improvement. Certainly the next time it was back like it was: tight but tough to close.

As for the material hanging up on the rear seat belt trim covers when opening, Alvin said there were adjustments possible and on the second try he fixed it, for which I'm grateful. That's all I know. Sorry.

So far mine has been holding up just fine , tight as a drum, I havent
tried the boot cover yet.

What do you guys use to clean and spot clean the top ?

I'm kind of resurrecting this old thread about 'vert issues.

My '05 GT vert has a rattle coming from the passenger side rear view window area. Only happens on bumpy roads. If I roll down the rear window some about 50% of the noise goes away but I'm left with a "spring-like" noise.

I might try some silicone spray lubricant to lube up the joint between the rear window and the front window.

Anybody else had these issues and any fixes. I hate to bring to the dealer for something simple like this and they keep my car for a day.

I had the same squeaky noise. It was the weatherstripping between the windows. Silicone on a cloth and then wiped on took care of the noise for a couple months. It's easy to re-apply when it starts again.

Thanks Dusty. I guess that money that I am about to spend on some silicone lubricant will be well spent. I'm off to the auto parts store here shortly. Another thing I notice is that it is worse with the colder weather.

Got my Pony end of November. Last week it hit 61 degrees and I Finally got a chance to open the top and keep it open for a while. In NJ its been just too cold and rainy.

Anyway once it was open I noticed it didn't appear to go down enough. It goes down to about the headrests but leaves a gap that looks like an airscoop. When I brought the car in for its first oil change I asked them to check the top. The maintenance manager agreed it should be lower. After hours of work and pulling my baby apart they called the Ford hotline and were told thats the way its supposed to look. The maintenance manager didn't believe this and argued with Ford. Finally Ford told him to go out and compare mine with other verts on the lot. Sure enough they left the same "air scoop".
So my maintenance guy said theres nothing he can do.

Do you guys have the same problem? I'm concerned about air catching in there and damaging the roof.

Had my O5 Vert since March 18th 05 and had a lot of top down weather here last summer. Mine looks the same and I have had no issues. You need to ride in the back seat for awhile and you will see there is not much wind back there. But , I agree it would have looked better if it would have went down a couple of more inches.

Resurecting again !

I still have rattle from my convertible top, anyone been lucky at fixing rattles on their convertibles out there ?

Mine is rattling where the top meets the windshield, a the top near the handle, as I hit a but or a serie of little wave in the pavement I can hear that craking sound.

If you hit enough bumps, you're gonna get some shake and rattle. We just got back from vacation, much of it in SE Massachusetts. Many of the more rural roadways are in terrible condition there from many tough winters and not enough maintenance. The Mustang took some beatings from it, though we tried to avoid the largest craters.

Back home now, on ordinary roads, she is her usual quiet self again. Even with the new design, a convertible is still a convertible. You cut the roof off, you lose some structural intergrity.

As for rattles from little waves in the pavement, ours has been problem-free.

Finally got my top rattle / cracking sound fixed !

It was related to the tensioner cable that passes all the way from from to back on each side of the car, that cable is made cover by a plastic coating and becaused it's passed through the vinyl top it was sticking and creating the cracking sound.

They completely remove the cable, put grease on it and fished it back into place and now the rattle / cracking sound is gone.
