So I went in to get my 08 GT oil change an said I'll take conventional. Its what I've used every time I've had my oil changed and what my dad uses in his 06 GT with 125000 miles on it with no problems. The guy stated that I shouldnt use conventional and that my car requires synthetic. The guy made a smart remark saying "he's lucky he hasn't had to take it into ford" about my dads car. Does our GTs require synthetic? The guy was saying any ford V-8 requires the synthetic.

Nop. If it was so, it would be written on the oil filler cap & owner manual. But syntech sure is better then conv, better protection at high & low temp.

GTs no (5W-20), GT500s yes... Here's a link to the owner's manual: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub...g3e.pdfhowever,

However, it wouldn't hurt using synthetic oil... longer oil change Intervals and it's a better lubricant, but you can't go wrong following the owner's manual...

Follow the money!!!!
Regular oil (used for many many years on all cars with NO problems)-- cost: $20-$30 per oil change.
Synthetic oil --cost: whatever the market will bear (from $40- to the sky's the limit)
You figure it out!

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought it didn't require it. Guy was probably just trying to squeeze more money out of me.

Motorcraft 5W-20 is a synthetic blend and that is what you should be getting from the Ford dealer at Quicklane., and that is what comes from the factory. Personally I do my own and use Mobil-1 synthetic . No oil breakdown and sludge build up. If you plan on changing from conv. to synthetic flush the motor first.
