- no spoiler on GT (we pushed the spoiler delete option on marketing)
- side marker repeaters incorporated into the horses on the fenders (see BMW Z8)
- slingshot backlight (see 911, TT, 65 fastback)
- standard 19"F, 20"R wheels on GT
- sequential signal taillights
- integrated antenna
- CHMSL built into backlight
- body colored mirrors
- soft IP
- soft door substrates
- leather wrap on GT IP
- MyColor Technolgy should change all the lights on the interior not just the cluster
Side Marker repeaters?
Slingshot?
OMG...the tires woulda owned. Definitely a price adder though.
Sequential lights...oh well...aftermarket has that covered.
Integrated antenna...really...this seems easily cheap to do.
CHMSL...what backlight?
Body colored mirrors... *sigh*
IP?
Soft door substrates?
IP?
And MyColor everywhere is what I thought it originally was going to do. Oh well...
slingshot backlight - http://www.3dcarbon.com/GT/BKpop_059.htm. J Mays said he wanted to do it in metal, but they couldn't do it since a 'vert was coming out. I don't get that one, that fugly 350Z has a u-shaped lower rear window and a 'vert

The rear shot of the blue Shelby looks good
The rear shot of the blue Shelby looks good
+1
The new cars need a rear view like the 68's... the back end of the old cars look so much better than the 05/06... I'd be at the dealer tomorrow if the new cars looked like that pic.

Amen! See below
- side marker repeaters incorporated into the horses on the fenders (see BMW Z8)
Don't miss... - slingshot backlight (see 911, TT, 65 fastback)
Yes, would have been nice, see my sig. - standard 19"F, 20"R wheels on GT
I think 18" is right for this car and should be standard on the GT. - sequential signal taillights
I have them on order
- integrated antenna
Yes,
- CHMSL built into backlight
Yes
- body colored mirrors
Yes, and I also find them disproportionately large for the car? - soft IP
? - soft door substrates
Yes, the hard plastic door panels definately look cheap and detract from the overall higher quality feel of the interior (with IUP). - leather wrap on GT IP
? - MyColor Technolgy should change all the lights on the interior not just the cluster
Parlor trick, but what's the point if only the cluster lights change color?
I went to great trouble to get a trunk lid in the States, so that I could loose that big rear wing. :notnice:
The car is such a clean design, with large areas free of surface clutter. Other than the roof, try and find a two square foot area of virgin sheet metal on the old model!?
This is a far more mature design that appeals to a much broader demographic than the old cobbled-up boy racer version. I hope Ford doesn't clutter it up over the next few years with tack-on junk...
Contrary to the writer a Forbes, I am 47 and would not be embarrassed to be seen anywhere in this car, in the old one however...
What I would add:
Since Ford is attracting a new more sophisticated buyer to this car (read older), they should offer basics and options that we are used to having on import cars of a similar price. Some things come off as just plain cheap for a car at this price point, no lit vanity mirrors, no auto seat return, no trunk release etc...
I would also pay a reasonable increase for an upgraded GT with heated seats, electric glass sun roof, better quality interior materials, better quality sound system (the Shaker 500 is even worse than Mach 460) etc...
For me the competition in two or three years will be the TL, (Honda nailed it!) G35, Accord etc... will Ford be able to keep me?

Brad, could you explain the above (with words or pics). I don't know what an IP is or a CHMSL
Thanks

IP is Instrument Panel (i.e. gauge pod...sometimes people are also referring to the center stack as well, which is the middle part where the radio and HVAC systems are)
CHMSL is Center High Mounted Stop Lamp..."built into backlight" - I'm not 100% what he meant by that...maybe putting it into the rear window vs. the decklid? Some companies integrate it well into the design of the car (see Cadillacs) and some don't.
EDIT: i think by backlight he means "rear window" therefore slingshot = u-shaped and "CHMSL" built in = see CDC third brakelight replacement.
A leather wrapped IP on the GT woulda been SWEET. I agree with everything he wanted 10000%....19/20 staggered set up would have been wild!!

What would hose shape side repeaters have turned out like? That's an interesting idea...
Slingshot back light I'd pass on if it looked like the CDC trim piece... I want to do the Saleen glass top, or CDC if Saleen won't do it as a kit... I like the smooth glass all the way back and that trim piece would ruin it.
19" and 20" rims would have permitted some nice brakes... Very few cars leave the showrooms with the rims you want to keep on it so I don't mind that the standard ones look just as at-home on an Explorer. 18" Deep dish bullets are what I'm after, which will permit a good bit of sidewall too. Low profiles take away from the retro image.
Sequential tail lights I like, especially the ones with the Chase effect... would be nice if they were stock, but there's kits out there to get what we want...
Integrated antenna? i.e. auto retracting? That would definitely have been nice, but I'll settle for a low-profile replacement, I rarely use FM anyway. The aux input converters are perfect for me, but I would like to see every auto-maker out there today having a standard 3.5 mm headphone socket input so you can just use a male-to-male lead on any MP3 player you have.
I don't mind the center stop light... but high is good... I might add the CDC one for the heck of it, but am fine without it. The Bentley GT third brake light is a work of art though, and I love that on the CDC top... but I love how consistent and smooth the Saleen top is instead. The CDC materials don't appear to match the actual windscreen and rear window.
Body coloured mirrors would be good too... but I'll just use the same covers on the Mustang Source project car.
Nicer materials inside would be nice, but I get the impression the interior is very hard-wearing on the '05. We all love the '65 Mustangs and I think in another 40 years we'll be loving the '05s.
My Color on everything - DEFINITELY This was one of the slightly disappointing things playing in the showroom... figured out how to change it up (salesman didn't know, lol) and everything else stays green... Better than not having it at all don't get me wrong... but I'd love for it to change everything to match...
Options like fully electric memory seats and so on would be nice too...
I know ford made a big effort to keep the weight down, with the aluminum block and hood etc, is there anything else that can be done to achieve a more 50-50 balance? The Corvettes have the gearbox down the back to help that out... is that at-all possible while retaining the 2+2 layout?
I would like to see a folding fabric top as an option on the coupe, but I understand it would take away sales from the roadster. I love open top motoring, but the hard top looks better and I feel safer with something over my head in a car that low when there's so many SUV's out there... so I'm settling for a glass top and the windows open

For the next "re-skin", if there was a kick-up in the fender line over the rear wheels, and the rear-seat windows opened too, then I'd be trading mine in.
Overall though, I really can't complain. Ford has done a wonderful job on the '05 and the aftermarket support is coming on in full force. I can't wait to get my hands on one. Good job guys, and I love that dunkin' donuts sketch
Oman Stang, Ford could have packaged a rear transaxle (ala Corvette) and still kept the 2+2 layout. Porsche did that with the 928-S4. However, that would have also required an IRS and further increased the cost. The benefit of an improved weight distibution would not be noticed by most Mustang owners.
Integrated Antenna = hidden, built into the windows, or whatever. Not retractable. That would make the lines much cleaner, IMO. I'd love to get rid of mine.
Thanks for the 13D, I chose it also.
Still waiting to order my sequential kit, that should've been an option.
MyColor should definitely change all the lights. Even in the dash, there should be a way to change the info center color, instead of it always being green. Oh well.
Love the slingshot backlight, would've been nice if the glass was that shape instead of just the black paint on the inside of the window. And the third breaklight in the rear window in stead of the trunk lid would've been cool, too.
The cop interior is my favorite pic I think, followed by the cobra pics, front and rear.
I do like the rims on the red, too. Look like the new CS rims.
