Here's a bigger pic of the Cougar.
I said it once and I'll Say it Again, Great Job TopNotch! :worship: Man I seriously wish Mercury would Build this as a New Cougar! It Would be an Awesome Alternative to the More Retro Mustang, For those people who are in the Market for a Muscle Car but don't like the Total "Retro" Look of the Stang.

We can only hope, Man I'm going to have to wait until 06 to buy a car. There are just too many coming out in the very near future. I'll be alittle patient and see what's up for grabs.

If the cougar looks like that chop though, I'm jumping all over it.

I think a four door charger is an insult to that name.

Chyrsler will prolly also bring back the Cuda and RoadRunner.

See you have to take into account Ford, GM, and DC are making big v8's now.

The Ford 6.2L, the Chrysler 6.1L Hemi and the GM 6.0L

Only so long before we see these engines in cars again.

Imagine a Ford 6.2L with 400 hp+ in a Mustang!
6.1L Hemi in Cuda!
6.0L Chevelle!

not that i wouldn't like to see them, but with gas prices where they are, i highly doubt their production. unless they can run on vegetable oil or somthin

Just like someone else said, you know darn well that everyone is going to rip off the Mustang. They will bring back their own historical nameplate and it will be all oldschool in the design. It will be so lame. Especially since everyone from the other brands is ripping the stang. They will all still maintain that the stang sucks even when their cars will be copies. Its just like the people who ripped on the thunderbird, only to maintain that the SSR is cool. Now don't get me wrong. I love the bird and think the ssr is crap, but it is because is it a pickup truck. This is just a lame idea.

All I know is that the stang is sweet and everyone loves is and is just jealous of it so much that they act like they hate it. Like a little kid pushing the girl on the playground cuz he likes her.... Only is someone pushes me i will kick his a$$

Yeah... as much as I'd love to see the return of the era of muscle, I doubt they'd really catch on with gas prices the way they are. But on the other hand, the new breed of large engine will be more fuel efficient than their sixties forefathers.

40 years ago, the Mustang helped start and promote an automotive revolution; maybe it'll happen again in the coming years.

It seems like the Chevy guys for the most part don't want a retromobile. They figure the 05 stang is to gimmicky to remain strong in sales and I read one poster on Z28.com (IIRC) that said the 05 mustang got stuck with a live axle because Ford ran out of money.

The brand x guys really want a 4 door corvette at cavalier prices. IRS, 400 hp 6.0L, ect.

The only downside I see to the 05 being the only guy on the block right now is it sets the bar for eveybody to gun for. Which means 300hp and 3500 lbs

To GM's credit they have a 350hp V8 waiting in the wings and a 400 hp upscale V8 if need be for an SS model.

Now follow a proven formula (not GM's but Ford's) for a pony car and get the weight down to qbout 3000 lbs and you've got a serious contender.

i would definitely NOT count gm out of the game when it comes to offering a competitor to the 05 stang. no one can top the original, imo, but that's not to say that gm can't offer a decent alternative.

as far as gas prices stifling the return of more "muscle cars" i think that
we will definitely see more of the american muscle v8 powered cars coming out. there can be some mitigation of the high fuel consumption of a v8 by utilizing the variable displacement that chrysler offers on the 300c hemi. i think the big question mark for gm and chrysler is not whether they will come out with their own muscle cars, but can they offer it a price that the public will buy it. as i have said before, it's pretty hard to beat a v6 mustang with all the bells and whistles for under 20k.

Agreed, a V6 stang is a great deal at a good price point.

The clack is that there is a camaro waiting in the wings, but a gag order on GM due to labor relations is preventing them from saying anything unitil some point down the road (06 to 07)? Dunno if this is the truth, but thats the current popular theory.

As for chrysler, I haven't checked on anything. My personal feeling is that they are missing the boat. Okay, plymouth is dead, but if the dodge boys would just slap the new hemi (which looks to be even better than the LS1) into a pony car and call it a cuda, they would sell a few.

I dunno how many dyed in the wool mustang fans are out there and I assume from my own perspective, that one would not abandon ones first love, but they could cause a ripple in mustang sales? Then again I could be wrong? Maybe there is only a market for wanna be, psuedo musclecar *** trucks (painted in a fashion to resemble the mopar machines of yor).

Fortunately for GM, the death of the f-body is recent and there are still legions of f-body loyalist dieing an agonizingly slow and tormented demise due to the current situation of having to choose from a corvette or a GTO if they want a rear wheel drive performance car, and unfortunately both are expensive options.

blah, being faster never helped the F-body anyway. It has always been faster, and still died.

to me, the mustang will be a runaway success...possibly approaching the original introduction as far as demand is concerned. the only stumbling block imo, would be something major with the quality issues, such as paint or build quality....otherwise, they'll be flying out of the dealers. jackg90seville 94k

I guess since the 2002's camaro's doors rattled the same way a 1982 camaro's did didn't help.

Either did the catalytic converter hump under the driver's seat...

Right, back in the day when 5.0's and GN's were the only game in town. Although the anniversery edition turbocharged firebird wasn't to shabby, I watched one click off a 12 second timeslip before it blew a head gasket. This was back in the early 90's when a 12 second daily driver was nothing to sneeze at (well at least in Va).

V8 F bodies wern't a force to be reckoned with till 93 when the LT-1 came out.
