Colour Coded Mirrors - Mineral Grey

I've been looking at the MidWest Auto colour coded mirror covers and wondered if anyone has painted the entire mirror housing.

I am looking for some pics of mineral grey cars preferably.

I really like the look of the MA mirror covers, but would like a comparison with going all painted.

Thanks in advance

Here you are! I think they should have come painted - it completes the car.

The mirror covers look great painted. Did they remove the housing from the car & take the mirror out of it, so as to paint the whole thing and not have any masking lines? 'Jus curious, becasue I am wanting to get mine done.....and to be sure it gets done the right way, not the fastest way.

+1... Definitely should have come painted. At the least the SE Stangs should have painted mirrors

ChrisM, thanks for the photo...does look a lot better. I am in two minds about getting the whole unit painted or going for the MWA covers. I found some red cars fully painted and it did look a bit too much for my taste, but I think the MG colour helps as it is not too bright.

Is there anything special that I need to do when they get painted or will the shop deal with it?

Giddyup, have a search on here and you will see some red ones with either the MWA covers or fully painted. Again, some people prefer the full option and others go for the covers. The covers may look better if there is other black features on the car, stripes etc.

Thanks again

I have painted mirrors for several 05s and 06s, the mirrors come off the car very easily, mask the glass with 2 inch tape, clean with alcohol, prime with epoxy primer such as PPG DP50LF, base coat your favorite color and clear with a good high solids urethane...thats it, you would have a hard time messing it up if you are fairly handy or have painted even a little.
The materials might be spendy at first though, I always have color on hand so it was darn near free.

And I agree...they shoulda come painted from the factory!, its amazing how much better the Tungsten and Mineral Gray cars look with matching mirrors.

Got one of the first sets of the MAG covers, a must-do modification. My next car wont be here for probably another 6 weeks or so and I am already going to order them. After having mine on for so long the dozens of in-stock Mustangs we have always look strange to me. Best mod for a Mustang for 5 minutes of effort. They have also survived the power washer and super high pressure air chucks(don't recommend it though). No offense to the painted ones, but they remind me as the ones on early 90's camrys. The mirrors are so huge on these cars that the caps not only highlight the color of the car, but actually slim down the mirrors a bit, even the ones on black cars.

And you can see them from very extreme angles

I agree. I think painting the whole thing is over the top. The MAG inserts are slimming and the contrast seems to have the same effect as a pin stripe.

So how do these MAG covers attach? And do they look like an add-on (i.e. such as the stick-on wood grain dash kits)?

The mirror covers attach using 3M tape. You simply install the tape and then install the covers. I think they look pretty good once installed but you need to be careful when installing them. I found out the hard way that if you can get the tape installed in the wrong place on the cover you can cause the cover to bulge slightly once installed.

I don't see how you could miss fit them, they fit perfectly in the outline on the mirror. It takes longer to get the backing off the tape with your nail then anything else...

The mirrors come off easily and so does the glass so I am not sure why people mask off the glass. You get a better end result when you remove the mirror. Anyway, one thing to keep in mind is they can chip a little easier when stuff flies up from the front wheels...already have a few chips on mine with about 5000 miles on them

All,

Many thanks for all the pictures and advise. I'm going to look into the MAG inserts and take things from there.

Cheers,
