Mustang World's FAQ
Cold Air Inductions:
"Cold air inductions" are trendy. They net you no measurable power gains. They invariably involve isolating the air filter area from the hot engine bay. A good start would be plugging all the coolant passages that heat the throttle as well as the intake manifolds. The heated manifolds(like every other car out there) is why cold air intakes don't make diddly for difference - because the intake manifolds are heated! This is also why you can feel the difference when your engine is cold - because the intake manifolds are still cold also!
Conclusion: Don't bother with cold air intakes until you manage to block/bypass the intake manifold heating.

Who's correct here? Anyone have emperical vs anecdotal evidence these do any good.

The december 2004 issue of MUSCLE MUSTANGS & FAST FORDS has a nice article on '05 aftermarket parts starting on page 80, the air box they list is not a cold air but it is high flow the caption reads.
Paul's High Performance
A high flow air box designed exclusively for the '05 GT. This is a bolt-in unit that comes with a stainless steel heat shild, a black powdercoated brace, a 10-inch conical filter, and all the necessary mounting hardware. PHP claims gains of 10-12 horsepower.
The magizine has many aftermarket parts listed for the '05 in the same article. Check this link for a pic, its kind of hard to see also check out the intake.

I can't buy into the theory they don't make power. 2003-2004 Cobras routinely pickup over 20 hp with the kits. The factory air box is designed to meet noise restrictions and is a compromise. If you looked at a C5 Corvette's stock air cover, you'd be suprised it would run at all with such a small inlet.
