If I saw them do that Id tell them I want a different one right away. Id be furious. If I want other people to drive MY car, they have to ask me, not the sales man

A sales manager at a dealer in NY somewhere, took out a new Ford GT before the customer showed up, he wanted to see how the power felt, it got away from him not 50 yards or so from the dealership, spun around and nocked the front end off, I saw a pic...not pretty

I SAW THAT in person. Little more than 50 yards. truth behind the story was sales guy went inside with customer to finalize paperwork and the other sales guy went to go fill it up with gas. guy decided t oshow off and peeledo ut in first gear layin down a 100ft rubber trail or so. shifts to second, more rubber, third he spins the backend out and hits a truck ripping apart the front of the car causing $80,000 in damages. needless o say he walked back to the dealership without the car and the customer was not happy. guy had paid $250,000 for the car and in order to fix it they had to send it back to the factory. obviously he demanded a new one be built as he didnt want to take delivery of a used GT haha.

...There was one incident where the dealer president took a sold car for a joyride and made a mess in the car, added mileage, etc...

I agree that any good dealership would not allow test drives of a sold vehicle. Although I have learned that the dealership owns the order car untill it is sold and then driven off the lot. So you do not legally own that ordered new vehicle untill you drive of the lot. Therefore the dealership can do whatever they like, but that would just be very poor customer relationship on their part and a no sale on my part.

I believe they are talking about a Ford GT, not a Ford Mustang GT.

The sad part about that is that the dealership probably still didn't lose any money. What with the car already 100 grand over sticker.
When I picked up my '03 svt focus, it had around 25 miles on it and a sticker indicating that it had been test driven by the factory. No big deal.
I would have issues with my dealership allowing test drives on a car that I ordered and have been awaiting for a couple months. Obviously, I am not the only one who feels this way, so I'm sure it is something of which they are aware. The problem is that if I told them to keep the car because they allowed test drives, I'm sure they would have no problem selling to someone else. So far, though, when people's ordered GTs have come in, they have put them on the showroom floor and not allowed test drives, so I'm not worried. I have bought several cars from this dealership and they are about as straight up as I've found. I could have been driving a GT for the last 2 months, but I would have had to get it from another dealership. I'm willing to wait and give my business to a business that treats me well.

When my car came in they kept it in the back until the day I got there, when I got to the dealership they had it in the vehicle delivery area. There were several people standing around it, but so was my salesman kind of keeping guard. It had 14 miles on it.

I found in my picture collection what the sticker should look like if you have extra mile's on it from ford .One of the members posted this a looooong time ago and I saved it just in case when mine comes in as to what it should look like (you never know)

Cool Craig, I would have had NO idea what/where I would see a "random" factory test-drive notice.
You just hope that dealers don't make copies and stick 'em on every higher mileage Stang!
But it sure would be some bad exposure on a 20/20 undercover! :flame2:

mine was the second gt ever thru my dealer, so obviously it was prepped nicely and put in the middle of showroom floor. had some 4.9ish (darn i forgot, maybe 5.9?) mi on it, salesman made it clear that they would not dare have test driven it. the engine bay smelled so brand new (not even any burning break in smells yet) im pretty sure it only rolled off the truck and was backed into the showroom.
everyone there that day just stopped and stared (first wk of nov, none had seen one before, even about half the salesmen)
