Can Dealer BS to Buy Time to Demo MY Ordered GT?
#1
Luckily I don't think it has happened to anyone yet, but if the dealer gets my GT before calling me or tells me it's still not in... can he (will he) try to get some test drives out of it before handing me the keys? I expect to legally own it at least several days before picking it up but has anybody picked-up a "straight from the factory car" with way too miles on it? Or seen their new order pull up with a test driver and salesman at the wheel???

Shouldn't the mileage be 1-2 miles coming from the plant and anything greater then that would be from a quality check, which would be documented on your vehicle with the odometer reading upon the completion of the check?
Great question!

There was a similar thread a while back. If memory serves, a lot came in w/ mileage in the teens. The basic conclusion that it shouldn't have any more than 25 at deliv. Tell your dealer ahead of time of your terms. Keep in contact w/ Ford customer service and make daily trips to your dealer once Ford gives you the ETA. They'll be less likely to try anything if for the last week you've been popping in daily just to check if it's shown up yet.

excellent point John... when I finally ordered mine there was a stunning Sonic Blue GT that had a hand-scribbled sign "SOLD" but that doesn't mean they won't just take a quick tour. Especially if a GT only appears every few weeks!

the vast majority of dealerships will not let anyone touch a sold car.
There was one incident where the dealer president took a sold car for a joyride and made a mess in the car, added mileage, etc. There was a big bruhaha.

Typically they roll off the truck with 2-5 miles. We usually end up with about 3-5 more after PDI and trip to gas station to fill it. Anything more than that is wrong. The only exception is if there is a sticker from the factory stating it was used for random evaluation (usually 5-25miles).

A sales manager at a dealer in NY somewhere, took out a new Ford GT before the customer showed up, he wanted to see how the power felt, it got away from him not 50 yards or so from the dealership, spun around and nocked the front end off, I saw a pic...not pretty

This is what it looks like when it comes off the truck...ours usually end up with 10-15 after PDI and Fill-up; 25 or less should be acceptable.
Just make sure and inform your dealer of your desire to have the car with no miles (within reason, of course)

I found in my picture collection what the sticker should look like if you have extra mile's on it from ford .One of the members posted this a looooong time ago and I saved it just in case when mine comes in as to what it should look like (you never know)
