For those who have read the manual: is this particular filter supposed to filter out fine, particulate matter, like pollen, for example?

 

I got one from Rockauto (Bosch), the one sold by Moss looks even better.

Its supposed to be a HEPA filter.

The Motorcraft cabin air filter is squished into a box and collapses. I highly recommend avoiding the Motorcraft replacement filter unless you can get one that is intact (look into the box at the counter before paying).

Looking at the filter media, it resembles that of the HEPA filters but may or may not be a genuine HEPA depending on the brand/supplier. Nonetheless, it is a LOT better than no filter! The air smells rather fresh when I use the HVAC system in the Stang...

Picked up new motorcraft cabin filter today from Bobby Ford. Paid $20.76 with tax. Checked box (thanks for tip) this one was not damaged. Read a poster while at the counter that stated these were good to 3 microns for allergens like dust and pollen. Thanks to everyone here for the great info.

 

Out of curiosity, what was the Motorcraft part # on your box? FP53?

I just changed my cabin air filter. When you get ready to do yours, go to the dealer and get two retaining pins to replace the ones you bascially have to break to pry them out of the cowl. Take the passengers side cowl out of the engine compartment to remove the filter holder - it will make your exchange a lot easier. It pops right back in with a little wiggling. The retaining pins have a screw in them which I couldn't get to back out so I pried them out - they only cost about .96 so buy a few to have on hand for the next tiem you do it. I did it at 20 mos and it was dirty.

 

I should do mine soon... I'm at 37k and sometimes the air has that "Not so fresh" feeling.


Although it seems to happen with the AC...

 

I'm only at 10k but i figured 20 months was about time. It could have gone longer. Just another way to make a buck for the dealers. Like to know why we even have one....

 

Cabin air filters ROCK. I love it. It also prevents junk from contaminating your heater core and evaporator core. The biggest advantage is filtering out cigarette smoke that other people blow out their cars.

 

I also have a Ford Escape Hybrid. The cabin air filter is in the back for the battery - it is half the size and costs $31.00. Cabin air filters - the newest ripoff for the car industry. Too pricey for what little they do.

 

The Stang's cabin air filter is about $10, what's the big deal?

 

looking at it's location, why did they suddenly see the need for a filter in that area? Plus, it's a pain to get at.

 

They are pretty much in the same place the old Sable we had, had it.

It just seems to be the best place to put it.

Other than trying to get at it from the inside of the car.
