So this thing CAN or CAN'T charge your iPod while you're using it in your car's AUX jack??

This is a cool thing!

If you're concerned about charging then buy a after market charger for your Ipod to plug into the powerpoint in the center console.

I was thinking about getting the Trips Tunes Advanced myself, but it seemed rather high for what is just a cable to connect your Ipod into your cars stereo.......

Think of the profit margin on this for Ford huh?

Much better sound quality than through the headphone jack, volume is constant (meaning you don't have to mess with the volume on the ipod - just on the car stereo), and works with the aux jack in the console.

Bought one of those for like 3 bucks on ebay. Only thing is all the chargers use the dock port, so when you're charging it you have to use the headphone jack for audio out. Never really happens unless your going on a long trip. Otherwise, just charge your ipod at home every night and you're good to go.

Yes, I got a charger for my non Ipod MP3 player. I was planning on using the Aux in port to connect to my ear phone line on my MP3 player. But, I'm concerned that leaving it out in the hot Texas summer sun all day long will ruin it.

So, now I'm just going to use the Shaker 500 that comes with the car. I have almost 50 CD's worth of music burned on the 6 CD-R's that I have in there now. Later on maybe I'll upgrade to a new stereo with a flash memory card slot in it like I posted eariler......

Someone from this forum or another suggested trying www.cyberguys.com. Go to Item No. 1900512, retractable 3.5mm stereo cable for $6.95. I ordered it and received it last week. Works like a charm with my iPod. The retractable part is really nice.

I bought the Ziplinq retractable one as well, but mine was dock connecter to 3.5 mm:

Unfortunately, it's very cheaply made, and the retractable mechanism self-destructed after about a week of use. Still works fine, but it's just a regular non-retractable cable now.

Someone needs to come out with a cable that has a dock connector goes into a car cord and retractable aux cable. That'd be perfect.

You mean like this?:http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=149006

Problem with these is that you get static or humming because of the proximity of the electrical current to the audio wire - something like that. I bought one and took it back because of that, and have since read many other who had the same problem.

I bet that does have a lot of hum.

What I meant, is if the dock connector had two cables running from it. One being a mini stereo cable, the other being power. You wouldn't get the interference because they wouldn't be running through the same bundle of wires.

what do you guys think about something like this, supposedly charges and lets you play it at the same time. altho im not sure if this lets you connect only thru the lighter jack or the aux as well. in fact, im not even sure it lets you play the ipod thru the car speakers, lol. Can anybody clarify?

I bought one of the stereo dock connectors mentioned earlier. Sound is a lot better. I just plug my iPod into the car charger at night. Doesn't seem to kill my car. I think I'll eventually get a new stereo with integrated ipod functions, or upgrade to the new integration thing Kevin KC is selling. I'd like to clean up the interior. Otherwise, that Harmon thing would be great.

Just in case no one else thought of this here is what I did. I originally used the mini jack wire that came with my ipod, which is maybe 2 feet long, and just closed the console lid on the wire, which didn't seem to hurt it, but I didn't have much slack to pick up the ipod and change songs while driving. So I bought a 6 foot black black cable at best buy for 10 bucks. Then I removed the knockout in the console and ran the wire through there and out the e-brake boot. It gives me plenty of slack, the wire comes around to the top of the ipod nicely, and I don't have to close the console on the wire anymore. And if I am not using it, I just tuck the wire down next to my seat, and you can't even see it.
