Anyone out there with an auto transmission leak??? I searched the forum but only found a few hits (with non-specific results as to fixes). I just noticed mine today, certainly not a flood, but a few drops nonetheless.

They're right under the tranny, not off to either side. It'll be going in on Monday but in the interim, if anyone's experienced a similar leak I'd be really interested in what the problem was.

Thanks - my first problem so I'm pee'd off. Oh well, nothing's perfect I guess.

Mark

My guess would be either a bad/crooked gasket, a bad seal, or a loose bolt.

Todd, you're wonderful, thanks!! This one didn't come up when I tried a few different searches. I'm gonna have the dealer pull this up and take a read.

Again - thanks ! Mark

Went to the dealer today, gave them a read of the posts (particularly the one from Todd re overfilling from the factory of A/T fluid). The leak wasn't excessive when I brought it in but there were a few drops hanging from the bell housing area (bottom and sides) indicating that foaming and blowoff might be the issue rather than a blown gasket/seal where the bell housing meets the block. So....Steve drained a bit of the oil (a fair bit more than an ounce), he said it was "way overfilled" and the result..... no more oil (for now) on the bell housing or the ground.

Thanks again Todd for referring me to your July post.

No problem - glad I was able to help.

There are really very few "one of a kind" problems that no one has encountered somewhere. Ford is already aware of most. Very few dealerships are willing to take a few minutes to research the problem and end up misdiagnosing the problem. I was very fortunate that my dealership didn't just replace the front seal but contacted Ford to get to the bottom of the problem.
