I learned this on Thursday, as one of the GT's I ordered for a customer had came in. I went out to take a look and check it out, and I saw that the global open feature has been disconnected by Ford at the Factory. There is a bulletin on the Ford dealer page. Here is what the memo states:
Febuary 4th 2005
Mustang 2005- Deactivation of door activated Global open feature
"All 2005 Mustang Coupes and Convertibles built after 1/1/2005 that are equipped with the Active Anti-Theft Package will have the door lock-activated portion of the Global Open feature deactivated. The feature will continue to be available via the key FOB. This action was taken to resolve a potential quaality issue that would cause the windows to inadvertenly roll down without customer interaction. The door lock-activated portion of the Global Open feature will remail deactivated for all units produced in 2005MY."
So to any of you out there who have their cars still on order, this feature will NO LONGER be on the car. The funny thing is that Ford states that the remote key FOB will still lower the windows, which is NOT TRUE. The one I have here that is waiting to be picked up, the remotes and the door lock cylinder both WILL NOT lower or raise the windows. The communication from Ford is correct to a point, but doesn't mention that the remotes won't work also.
There is no problems with the system, to those who asked their service depatments, the feature is just no longer active with the car. Just wanted to answer the question that went into the post below. Any questions, please ask.

So their idea to deal with this issue is to just turn it off instead of fixing it? That is just plain stupid! I know it's not a major point in my decision to buy this car but, it was one of those neat little things that I liked about it. I'm disappointed they chose to just turn it off and ignore it. :notnice:

I actually never use it, kind of a pointless feature. It would be much more usefull if you could roll all the windows up with the keyfob so you wouldn't have to run out to your car when it starts pouring down rain.

I realize that any car will have problems and that with first year models, this probability increases so I guess this is one of those things that fall into the "no big deal" category. I do hope that we don't have too many more surprises. One would think that the bulletin would have said something to the effect that dealers will be notified in the future regarding a "fix".
IMO - ain't going to be any.

I just remembered reading a thread this past week about a hold being put on cars built with the active anti-theft - guess this may be why mine didn't show up as thought this week

It is a great feature in the summer when it's a kagillion degrees so you can roll the windows down and let the heat out before you get to your car. I also noticed there is no mention of trying to fix it but I'm hoping they will.

Well this sux, now I paid an additional $227 for nothing. I could care less about the alarm, that's what I have insurance for. Thanks Ford! Hopefully since it is just deactivated and not removed someone will figure out how to activate this feature.

All,
Quick version:
Mine was built on Dec 16 04... Took delivery w/this feature inop. - I took car back to the dealer who on the first visit determined that the problem was in the "central processor"... Dealer order same and replaced when this part arrived 7-10 days later.. However, when replaced feature was still inop - Dealer service dept/advisor called in for factory tech assist.. After two days with the car in thier posession the feature was rendered operable again (as advertised).. This I am told after obtaining lots of learning curve with assist from the factory on how to reprogram this feature back into the "central processor" ... Anyway - this feature now works on my car now... and you can:
a) Universally roll the windows down by depressing and holding the key fob’s unlocked button for 2 seconds or more.
B) Universally roll the windows down by inserting key into the driver’s door lockset and turning the key to the unlock position and holding for 2 seconds or more.
or
c) Universally roll the windows up by inserting key into the driver’s door lockset and turning the key to the lock position and holding for 2 seconds or more.
This feature will come in handy in the dog-days of summer here in Virginia Beach...
