the shift lever. It's an automatic and is wearing badly where the lever makes contact with the shift gate. Anyone having the same problem? If so, any idea how to fix or prevent from getting worse?

I have put a little Vaseline on a Q-tip and worked it into the contact area of similar problems...

My suggestion is taking it to the dealer. This is uncalled for. How long have you had the car?

He is right - it may be something out of adjustment - the dealer should take a look first... (I am used to working with old cars...)

My problem is with the door inserts. The insert on the driver's side already as a scuff mark. Perhaps when these inserts were put in Ford should have put a plastic or vinyl membrane overtop to prevent scuffing.

Ford did put a clear vinyl on them. Your dealer must have took it off. I have had my car for 6 months and still have the vinyl on them to prevent any scuffing.

P.S. You are talking about the silver inserts that say MUSTANG right?

The car has 950 miles on it, and it is not the scuff plates in the doors, it's the aluminum trim on the shift lever. So I don't know if shift lever came with a plastic film like the scuff plates or not.

Again, I would take it to the dealer see what they say. You never know, they may replace it for you. If you had a good relationship with your salesman/dealer I would let him see it first.

ddtdebuty;

The original post was about the shift lever. My concern was with the mustang door inserts that say mustang. I have since had the 3m film put on the car and have had the 3m outfit put the film on the door inserts.

Can you post pics of the door inserts? Does the film go into the recessed letters or over the top?

It goes over the top but has been there for 6 months now and does not seem to be going anywhere as I have washed the car many times. I will post pics as soon as I get a chance to take picture of it.

Ok here is a pic of the vinyl on the door inserts. Pic is not very good as it was dark in the garage. As you will notice there is a scratch on the vinyl. Thank goodness the vinyl was there otherwise that scratch would have been on the actual door insert.

The vinyl really looks better in person but appears to look rough in the picture. You must look close to see that its their. Remember that this is from factory so I am sure anyone that wants to do this could make it look even better.

==It's an automatic and is wearing badly where the lever makes contact with the shift gate.==

I use my shifter a lot, I downshift in traffic to get some braking power out of the motor. After reading this post I took a look at mine and noticed what appeared to be worn spots low on the shifter arm. I ran my finger over them and they came right off, apparently it was just a little dirt buildup. I've got over 2k miles on mine. Have you tried wiping off the arm? If you have and the damage is still there, then you've got something going on that needs to be fixed. It sounds like parts are making contact that shouldn't.
