I assume you have the top up when you're testing it?

From other posts on here, the motion sensors don't work with the top down.

I have not been able to set mine off either and I read the manual. I figure I'm just doing something wrong. If you walk up to the car and rock it, isn't it supposed to go off?

No... the alarm won't typically go off by rocking the car...

(from the manual
When the vehicle is locked and armed, the active anti-theft system
monitors the following:
• Doors
• Hood
• Trunk
• Movement inside the vehicle
• Change in vehicle inclination

(end of manual pasted text)

When it's armed, the alarm will sound if a door, the hood or trunk is opened.

It will also go off if there is movement inside of the vehicle (you can test this one pretty easily by arming the alarm with your windows down, then reaching inside the vehicle and waving your arm... the alarm should then go off).

It will also go off if the vehicle's incline changes (for example, if someone tries to tow the car away).

It would make most sense for a vert that it would work with the top down. Sometimes Ford just kills me by not doing everything 100%.

No it wouldn't.
Then it would have so many false alarms, it would be useless.
They did it just right.

rmac thanks---no, it was with the top down, but i could se where false alarms could happen--aka windy days---i'll put the top up and try it---the incline change is a great feature too----

It really is a good factory system. Ultimately, none of these will stop determined thieves from stealing the car, but it sure will make it hard for them to be inconspicuous about it!

They usually can't hotwire these cars anymore because of the RFID keys. So they just flatbed tow them. But our systems will go off when they try that too.
