I've noticed that my car makes a strange, one-second (or so) long noise every so often, when the car is on but idling. I am thinking it might have something to do with the ac, but I am not sure about it. It sounds like like air scaping a valve.
Has anyone noticed this?

I wonder if that is what you call PONY FLATULENT. LMAO.
Man I do not have a clue. A vacuum leak sounds the same but it remaind the same not on and off. Did you by any chance have the heater on defrost? If you did the AC kicks in to dry the air.

I would love to know what this is as well.
I've had my car now for about 3-4 weeks and it started making this noise a week after I got it.
I've found that it makes the pressure-release noise at idle and while the car is moving, with the AC on and with the AC off..
If ANYONE has any idea what this noise is I would appreciate the knowledge. Otherwise I'm going to have to take it in and I don't want to let it out of my sight!!!
Thanks to anyone who might have an answer to the problem.

I have the same issue. I can only hear it when the car is idling and the air, AC or not, is on. Turn it to off and it goes away. Must be the compressor for the AC or something turning on and off.

A/C or def. seem to cause the sound. I also hear it on my current Jeep & Saturn when the A/C or def. are on. My 2000 Wrangler did the same thing. The only vehicle I've had that didn't make the sound was my '97 Wrangler w/o A/C.
