Heads up, everyone! I'm taking "Lucky" on a cross-country road trip. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll see some of you. It would be cool to cross paths with fellow Mustangers along the way! eace:

I'm taking I-64 west out of Richmond, Virginia, picking up I-70 in St. Louis, Missouri to Denver, Colorado, heading north on I-25 to Cheyenne, Wyoming and west again on I-80 to Sacramento, California.

My Tenative Itinerary: (Includes estimated driving times and mileage.)

Richmond, Virginia - 0:00 (0 Miles) START Saturday, July 30th a.m.
Lexington, Kentucky - 7:32 (490.6 Miles) Saturday, July 30th p.m.
St. Louis, Missouri - 6:03 (338.7 Miles) Sunday, July 31st p.m.
Salina, Kansas - 6:33 (425.9 Miles) Monday, August 1st p.m.
Denver, Colorado - 6:39 (432.7 Miles) Tuesday, August 2nd p.m.
Salt Lake City, Utah - 8:14 (535.2 Miles) Wednesday, August 3rd p.m.
Reno, Nevada - 7:57 (517.5 Miles) Thursday, August 4th p.m.
Sacramento, California 2:02 (131.7 Miles) END Friday, August 5th p.m.

I'm hoping to capture a few photos of this beautiful country during the course of my trip. Naturally, I'll sneak in a few of my car in the process!

I've wanted to take a trip like this for years. Fortunately, circumstances are finally allowing it. Honestly, I'm going to savor every minute of it! :drive:

That sounds awesome!!! Have a safe, fun drive! I drove my car 1200 miles straight from FL to OH... it was the best drive of my life. Hope you enjoy yours!

Your trip sounds great. If you have the time, get off the Interstate and enjoy even more scenery.

I plan on driving only during daylight hours so I can enjoy the scenery. I hope that I can post pix of my trip along the way using my laptop.

I just want to get there in one piece, so I'll be driving extra carefully.

Did you pick this route based on the scenery that you'll expect to see? Did you use mapping software, or AAA routes, or something else? It sounds like a real blast!

You guys and gals are the best! Thanks for your support and encouragement. I appreciate it. And thanks for the heads up about the car show, Frank! I just might take you up on that. I hope the weather cooperates for y'all.

Long drives out in the country have a very humbling effect on me. This country is just so huge and beautiful, I can't ever see enough of it. Rich, I drove down the California coast back in 96. You're right, it is breathtaking! I'm really looking forward to my new digs and seeing some old friends again. Jeff: sorry I'm not taking I-40; it would have been cool to hook up. Still, I'll see you in Vegas in September. That road trip should seem like a breeze compared to this!

I chose this route primarily due to the time of year. While I could have taken the northern route (I-80) all the way, I decided to take the most direct. There were compromises, naturally, because there are so many cities I've never seen and wanted to visit. If this goes well, and I get the chance, perhaps I'll return to the east coast using another route.

Gotta get going. I have a lot of packing to do! I'll be in touch...

Chris, enjoy your trip! When I was 10 my family and I did a cross-country camping trip, we took 2 months to do it. Although I kicked and moaned everytime my parents dragged me "sightseeing" those are some of the BEST memories and times I ever had. I hope to do the trip myself one day and in my Stang. You're gonna love the trip! Have a great time!

If you take 80 back and end up in Jersey, post up!
