I've had one weird issue that I basically dismissed. I can see now that I need to pay a lot closer attention to this.

Song playing on a commercially bought CD and it just arbitrarily decided to switch to the next song on it's own. I kind of thought hmm...that was weird.

Thanks Paul that's a great offer. You have a great deal of knowledge on this subject. Are you an audio engineer?
Hey, no problem! I'm a Computer Network Engineer....it's basically all the same hardware (minor differences) and it's all the same software, when it comes to MP3 playback...

I'm looking into the Windows Media Player and Roxio systems now...if anyone is using something different, let me know...

MMMM my car only likes classic rock

First off, the AC/DC and Eminem thing got me wondering....it's possible tha that the Eminem disk has copyright software on it, so you can't copy the cd or you can only copy certain tracks. That will cause the CD to get "spit" out in certain audio systems..
These cd's were right out of the package right out of the store.

I use xp cd creating wizard.

I spent a few hours today taking the old radio out. Replaced it with a brushed aluminum Sony head unit (CD/MP3), XM, and ran the wires for my sub. Works and sounds good.

Can you post some pic's? I am considering ordering the low end stereo and replacing with an aftermarket unit.
Thanks.

For those that have the shaker 500, do you still think it is worth the money. I am debating on wether getting the standard radio or the 500. Does the standard radio expericence the same problems for reading the cd's. After reading about all the problems with the disc changer, I am not sure that I want it. Any help will me much appreciated.

My problem with it started yesterday. Pretty aggravating, but just have to see how easy it is to deal with dealer. If they order a new unit, while i keep my radio - - no worries.

Then, the issue is whether they know what causes the bad disc errors, in the first place.

My changer was working for a few days; then stopped. I don't have experience with aftermarket head units; but I'm sure we'll see more on the forum. I may check with local shops, anyways to check out alternatives. I prefer a "factory" looking finish first. I don't know if aftermarket installations can achieve this look.

CD players are always problematic.....sooner or later. I had a 10 disc Sony in my 90 Mustang (junk, replaced twice), an el cheapo in my 94 SHO (never a problem), a 10 disc Sony in my 96 Mark VIII that lately reads "no cd". Luckily they are/were all trunk mounted CD players.

I'm a little leery about indash multiple CD changers.

Here are a few pics of my new HU Its a Sony CDX-F7700 (Single CD, MP3), added XM (mounted antenna on rear deck). Not the best pics, but it gives you an idea.

1 more. My previous car (Isuzu Rodeo) had a 6-Disk In-Dash changer. Isuzu had many problems with them (No Cd, skipping, advancing to new song halfway thru the current song, and locking up). I did not want to go that route again. I had XM before and wanted it in this car. I'm happy with my decision.

Maybe it would be better to get an MP3 player and put it in your car, then the Shaker 500?

I have already purchased my Sirius system for mine but have been struggling with where to mount the antenna. Can you post a photo of your antenna you stated was mounted on your rear deck lid? :worship:

I'll do that in the morning. My camera stinks at night. I have the antenna centered on the deck right where the seats meet the deck. It gets a good shot at the sky and no loss in signal. I'm sure I'll have to move it if I get louvres. Tint doesn't effect the reception that much, the only time I totally lost reception was when I closed my hand over the antenna.

Funny, but that has been more of a concern for me (mounting the antenna) then when I will get the car. Odd how OCD works right.

The photo will be greatly appreciated.

There cd playes stink period. My 2000 has a darn cd in there that has been in there for like three months now and I can not get it out. It is like it is stuck. I hit eject and nothing. I hope the new ones do not do this after a couple of years.

i was wondering that is you have say the 500 system and just replace the player with an aftermarket will or can the speakers still run on the amps that power them (i think the 500 has amps for the speakers, right?) cus that would work ausome have more speakers cus the 500 have more speakers than the standard setup does and all you have to do is just change reciever or would that not work. the standard setup doesnt have as many speakers i dont think and they do not have amps powering them. the 500 does. hope i didnt repeat and i make sense?

and..... then you can just run your sub and wiring from the new reciever easily and have still ausome 500 speakers amped for mids and highs not having to add those type of speakers and amps for that.
