Today at lunch I had the weirest problem with my 6 disc changer, and its on going.

I get in the car to goto lunch, I turn the radio on and it tries to start the cd it was playing earlier on my ride to work.

It rejects the cd as bad, then it spits out disk 2, then 3, then 4,5 and 6.

It spits out every cd I had in it as BAD and claims any cd I put in it since is bad as well. I checked all my disk they are all spotless clean with no scratches.

If the problem doesn't clear up or clears up then comes back I guess Im due for my first warranty work on my new Mustang.

My 2001 Mustang also had a 6 disk changer and I never experianced a problem like this.

I would get used to this. Ford has never produced a 6 CD changer that worked more than a week. Just ask the Focus SVT guys with the "audiophile package". Most of them are on their 2nd and 3rd CD player. At least it gave you your CD's back. Some of them lost 6 CDs, on top of the player, which Ford would not pay for.

Really? Maybe it's better to go after market then? $600 is a lot for something that doesn't work.......

Did you try unhooking the battery for about 15 minutes to reset the system?

I think you missed something I said.

"My 2001 Mustang also had a 6 disk changer and I never experianced a problem like this."

I had a 6 disc changer in my 2001 Mustang, which I purchased new in November 2000, and drove until Oct 19 2004 worked flawlessly never had a single problem with it.

Is it doing it on all CD's or just MP3's?

my wife has an '03 Focus that doesn't have any problems.... technically. I hat the fact that I can grow a beard quicker than it can change CDs.... and it doesn't read burned CDs (not MP3 format), but other than that, there hasn't been a problem for 2 years now. I'd take you car in and have them swap it. unfortunately it's too late as far as a refund goes.... they're not going to give yoe a credit for the option so you can buy something aftermarket. You're hosed on that one.

Also, its a 2 tray system. Wouldnt an aftermarket head unit look silly? I wonder if the option is worth the fact that the trunk is allready wired up for a sub for you. I wonder what guage wiring they use. I don't want the 6 changer, for 2 reasons, 1) this problem, and 2) if you can play MP3s, you can easily get 6 CDs worth of music on 1 CD. However, it would also be nice to not have to rewire up the whole car to get better speakers and a sub in the trunk. Maybe they will offer a Mach 1000 Lite, without the 6CD

Same thing has happened to me a few times. Most recently, YESTERDAY, but it didnt spit out all of the Cd's, just the one it kept saying was a 'BAD DISC'. I took it out, put the CD in my CD changer in my 99 dodge Intrepid, and it plays fine. Put it back in my Pony, and she spit it out again. In addition, Ive noticed that on certain CD's, it'll play half way thru a track, and then all of sudden it REWINDS, and starts playing again like its posessed...haha Guess I'll be taking her back for a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Im an Network Technician, Im the type of person that will verify a problem is reproducible before reporting it, Even If that means I lose a CD.

If I take it in otherwise, they might find its suddenly working, and record it as problem not found.

If it is still doing it tonight when I get off work, or the problem subsides but returns then I'll take it in.

My parents on a Ford Escape that is realllyyyy touchy when it comes to reading CD's with just minor scratches. Although it doesn't try to cough up all the CD's.

Is there a difference in the main unit between the two?

I had problems in my Explorer ,also. They changed the CD player the first time. Check your manual. It may say something about certain cd's that cause problems. That is the printout they gave me after I had problems.

Maybe it's your taste in music, and this is the pony's way of telling you?

There no way for me to know, I have the Shaker 1000. But I think the head units are the same for the Shaker 500 and the Shaker 1000.

I went out to my car just now, and the problem is deffinatly persistant. Im going to call the Ford Dealership and have them look at it.
