It might make it more difficult down the road, when people's memories and familiarity with this change would wane. If I were in your situation, I would be doing the research now.

Good luck...

+1. That's a generous offer by 05fordgt. I'd take him up on it.

Once again ALL 2007 MY Ford cars and light trucks REGARDLESS of when they were purchased get the 5yr/60000 mi. powertrain warranty-no if's and's or but's! Administering Ford Warranty Claims and knowing the policy is my job. You are getting your panties in a bunch over nothing.

BlackSunshine - I wouldn't ignore it if I were you....the older/more miles your car has the less response you are going to recieve....I'd have Chip get a name of the person he spoke to and call and ask for that person...(or just call back and get a different person at customer service)have them send you the letter stating that you get the warrranty....then you can breathe easy and not worry about having an uphill battle for a major powertrain compenent coverage between the 36K and 60K miles. Get it straight now - letting time elapse will not help.

Tiberius - so then he does not need the letter from Ford that were sent to some early model '07 owners stating that he is covered? If so, I agree no sweat as the VIN bears witness that it's an '07 and covered - I had understood you needed that letter from Ford

I purchased my '06 on 9/2/06 after the announcement of the 5/60 on remaining '06s. My understanding is that it is a Ford powertrain ESP with a $100 deductable that takes me beyond the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper. None of my dealer paperwork or owner's manuals reflect this offer. The finance guy at my dealership said it is "in the computer" and not to worry about it. Is he correct?

Yes, he is correct on this. All the 2006 models, the 5/60K Powertrain is the Ford ESP, and its entered in the system, so Ford knows about it. You should have signed an ESP contract when you picked up your car. If you didn't get a copy of the ESP contract, please give them a call, so you can get a copy for your records. The books or owners manual won't say a thing, as Ford never sent out any updates. I'm sure that the 2007's that are getting built now, will have the warranty update in their new books. Any questions, feel free to PM me.
