5 Year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty help
I bought my 2007 Mustang GT on 07-08-2006. On 07-14-2006 Ford announced a 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warrenty. I called Ford customer service and they told me that since I bought my car before 07-14-2006 I could not get this warranty.........No if and's or buts. Fords customer service said regarless that my Mustang is a 2007 it was bought before 07-14-2006 and not elligible.....Anyone have any info????....I was under the impression, along with others, that I got grandfathered into this plan.

For those who think your 2007 Mustang bought before 7/14/2007 is covered under the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty try calling Ford Customer service and give them your VIN. They told me point blank that cars bought before 07/14/2007 are not covered. The reason I called was to get formal documentation on this warranty and it connected to my VIN They have no documentation that my cars is covered......Ford is trying to get out of covering cars bought before 7/14/06

Not sure if the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warrenty takes over after the 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumber. Maybe Ford customer service reps are wrong or misinformed. They are all clearly telling me that since I bought my car before 07/14/2007 I'm not elligible.......Why don't they have info on this???....Warranty info on the car is encrypted in the VIN. I gave them my VIN showing that the car was a 2007 and they still said "no, we see a sold date of 07/08/2006. this car is not covered under the plan"
If you bought a 2007 Mustang before 07/14/2006 call this Ford Cust. Svc number and ask. Have your VIN handy 1-800-392-3673

The powertrain warranty keeps going, even when the Bumper to Bumper warranty expires. So your engine, transmission, and drivetrain is still covered for another 2 years, or 24,000 miles.
About the warranty not being retroactive? Its really the same case if you purchase a car and a week later the incentives change and there is more rebates. You can't get that either, sorry to say.
EDIT: My 1,500 post.

So your saying it's not covered???......Ford advertises 5 year 60,000 mile Warrenty on all 2007 Vehicles.......My Mustang is a 2007?????...That doesn't apply?????....I urge people to call Customer service who bought their 07's before 07-14-2006 so we can try to figure this out.

From the article, which is right from Fords' web site:
Effective July 14, the powertrain limited warranty for 2007 Ford and Mercury vehicles will be five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. That’s an additional two years or 24,000 miles of coverage for such components as the engine and transmission beyond each vehicle’s three-year or 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty.
The new Ford warranty programs are retroactive to the beginning of the 2007 model year, so customers who already have purchased a 2007 Ford, Lincoln or Mercury will automatically receive the added protection.
Whoever you've talked to so far is wrong. Keep going up the chain 'till you get the right answers.

Documentation for Additional Warranty Period?
I thought I read somewhere that there was some kind of form the dealer is supposed to provide to buyers outlining the additional warranty period. Anyone know anything about this?

Yes, I had to sign a form indicating the additional warranty period was valid for this car. I got it on 4-Aug-2006.

Ford Customer Svc is no help at all. My dealer has no clue, they say warranty coverage is through Ford and to call them for info......I have no clue what's up with owners who bought 07 Mustangs before 07/14/2006. All I know if Ford customer service says. Your not covered buddy because you bought your car before 07/14/2006. Some of the above links in this post outlining the warranty and stating that it is retroactive is info that I have seen and read before but try calling Ford customer service and they'll say a different story....

Hmmm, this got me thinking about my purchase date. Luckly, I fall after 7/14/06. I'm sure your dealership will be able to get you that form.
I just noticed that I bought my Mustang 08/07/06. That's a cool date.

Just called Customer Service. They said the purchase date does NOT matter if the vehicle is a model year 2007. The warranty is retroactive on any '07 purchased before 7/14/06. Yes, I did give her my VIN and she did have knowledge of the purchase date (6/30/06). Since she did confirm that my vehicle is covered, I see no reason why yours shouldn't be as well.

I was only on the phone with them for a minute or two. They knew exactly what I was asking and were very quick to answer that I was covered under the new warranty. Could you have possibly worded your question so that it was misunderstood? I find it hard to imagine them being confused about this. Perhaps you should call and ask again. Explain that you were told one thing while someone who purchased their car before you was told another.

Chip, Thanks for some info. When I called Ford Customer Service they argued with me tooth and nail......They weren't backing down either....Since I have the standard 3 year 36,000 thousand in effect right now I guees there's no need to worry for another few years......I just thought Ford would have mailed me something on this.......who knows?????...........It's an act of congress to get delaers to honor warranties these days anyway......maybe I shouln't care.

Thanks for offering but I'm going to hold off. I think your response might just make me get more annoyed. I still have 3 years of warranty ahead of me ( I won't put 36,000 miles on this car before that) . No point in worrying about it now. I'll give them a call 7/08/2009 and ask then. But untill then I'm going to forget about it (ignorace is bliss).........
