Just read on this site http://www.stangsunleashed.com/forums/inde...p?showtopic=187 about more rumors on a upcoming 4.6L DOHC engine.

Quote from towards the bottom of this thread:
Here's the particulars: 4.6L cast iron block, 32 valve heads, new style supercharger, 2003/2004 Cobra internals, 450 dyno-horsepower.

No doubt that more Mustang variants are coming, so it may go in one of those. Of which, though, I do not know. These might even be test engines for some other purpose.
Seems to go with threads on here concerning this same subject

A lot of recent discussions/rumors about an upcoming engine in between the GT500's and the current Mustang GT.

So basically what your saying is, a GT500 may not be the absolute answer for everyone? I mean, if they make more varients which are over 400HP period, its a good day for everybody... Its only fair that the GT get something at or above 400HP.. Its the only proper thing to do these days..

Something between the GT/GT500 with 390-425hp supercharged 4.6 would be great.

hmm..

so there is the 300HP GT, a 450HP s/e and a 475HP shelby

Unless they are dropping the shelby, that combination doesn't make sense.

I would guess that the DOHC motor is n/a with 350HP, then again, maybe a small s/c to get it up to 400HP

its all just speculation as it is.

Not sure how you have me saying that. Just posting info from other threads on a new more powerful 4.6L engine.

I agree, then Ford would have a nice lineup from which to choose.

I will probably trade in my 6 for a GT in 08 or 09 because my poor little car will be getting spanked daily by 350HP Lexus coupes as well as hotter running 07 Honda Civic SI's...

Shame shame shame

I think 08/09 would be a great time for a SE with a 425+ HP, 6 speed, priced around 30-34k. That is what my projected new car budget is for that year.

That would strike me as a slightly odd motor for a mid-range SE -- heavy iron block, expensive and complex SC.

I could see a hi-po AL block DOHC 4.6 with upwards of 350hp backed by a 6spd MTX as a neo Boss. The last thing a more balanced Boss type performance car would need is all that dead weight upfront in the nose from a pig iron block and SC system to give it mulish handling.

Or an AL block, 3V or 4V 5.4, again with upwards of 350+ hp but more torque, as a Mach I motor. An FE block here might be more plausible as Mach Is are pretty much one-trick ponies -- quarter horses basically -- for which Nth degree handling is a rather distant concern. They are also more likely to be hot rodded to such a degree as to actually necessitate the strength of an FE block. In addition, I think the complexity and cost of an SC system might be a disincentive for the legion of backyard hot rodders for whom the Mach I might most appeal.

However, those are just my seat of the pants musings...

Well shoot - why don't they stroke the motor enough to get one more cubic inch per cylinder. Then they could call it the "High Performance" 289. They could make the engine code "K" for Mustang. That would be a GREAT idea! But, I think I have heard of that some place before.

Supposedly the bore of the mod motor can be increased to 92 mm w/o problems.

Increasing the bore to 91.5mm = 288.9 CID (displacement of the old 289 was actually 288.5 CID).
