The only time you should have to pay anywhere near MSRP or more is for very limited supply vehicles (GT, Escape Hybrid maybe). This is a regular production vehicle. Sure things will be slow at first, but 6 months from now lots will be full of them. Find a dealer smart enough to understand it's just rubber, glass and steel like all their other vehicles and price it accordingly.

No one would take that deal. Go to a Toyota dealer and try that on a Sienna minvan sometime. I would politely send you to another dealer unless you had a trade that I could take $3000 off of its proper condition trade-in list value, since that would mean nothing either.

I believe that volume, not gross profit, is the key. The guys up the road will make a couple grand on the first few they sell, in the meantime, we'll sell 10 to 15 times more. That means 15 times more service customers, sources for referals, etc... It is simple mathematics.

I was not saying that the 300 under invoice was the x-plan price. I was saying that it was a better deal than the x-plan price. I joined AAA after reading here on this forum that you might be able to obtain favorable pricing on the 05 mustang. After joining AAA and navigating their site i realized that they have a "Vehicle Buying Program" which apparently is agreements with certain Ford Dealerships. Upon Selecting Ford and entering my zip code I was presented with a SHORT list of dealers that were "Close" to me. In reality they were not that close. Closest one was 30 miles, but had no info on 05 mustang or just didn't want to deal. The second closest was about an hour and a half away. When I generated the Certificate from the AAA website I was very excited to see that it said 300 under invoice 2004/2005 mustang. Still a little skeptical I waited for the dealer to contact me, and he confirmed over the phone that the 300 under invoice for a 05 mustang was true. He then had me email him the exact specs I wanted for my car and he emailed me right back saying he would place the order for my car at a gauranteed 300 under invoice. I have since sent him a $500 deposit on the car.

Unfortunately there are not dealers even "close" according to the AAA site for the Northwest. So I heard that the Costco car buying program will get most new vehicles at invoice price. If they can get me a loaded 05 for invoice I'll go through them.
