Haven't actually placed the order yet, but I talked to a guy on the phone and I have a printout from AAA website that says that I can get a 2005 mustang for $300 under invoice just for being a AAA member. Does this sound too good to be true? I joined AAA when I read a post a little while ago about possible "x-plan" pricing for AAA members. But if this 300 under invoice is tru than that would be BETTER than x-plan pricing.

Anyone else have experience with this?
Wrong. x-plan is over invoice for cars under 30K, and AAA EMPLOYEES are x-plan, not members. Its simillar to Cosco pricing. Some dealers have a program with the local AAA offices(USAA too). No dealer is going to honor that price structure on a new mustang for the first 3-5 months. It is not an x-plan where Ford pays them back, just an agreement with a dealer.

So... AAA actually offers the 2% higher X-Plan and not the 2% lower (that would be 500$ on 25,000) plan...?

even if you can get it for invoice price...you would be foing a heck of a lot better than most people who are going to be paying full msrp
Not sure why anybody would be paying MSRP. Unless you have to be the first person on the street with one (which if your order isn't already scheduled, you're not first anyway), you should just order one now and wait the few months it will take. You should pay invoice or less and leave the 3% holdback plus the blue oval money for the dealer.

The only time you should have to pay anywhere near MSRP or more is for very limited supply vehicles (GT, Escape Hybrid maybe). This is a regular production vehicle. Sure things will be slow at first, but 6 months from now lots will be full of them. Find a dealer smart enough to understand it's just rubber, glass and steel like all their other vehicles and price it accordingly.

No one would take that deal. Go to a Toyota dealer and try that on a Sienna minvan sometime. I would politely send you to another dealer unless you had a trade that I could take $3000 off of its proper condition trade-in list value, since that would mean nothing either.

It doesnt offer any x-plan, just a buying service like your credit union does. Most likely under 2005 mustang gt it will be "n/a" for a while.

I would take that deal. I am selling 05 Mustangs, along with any other new vehicle (excluding the GT and Hybrid) at $200 UNDER invoice. They are a FULL production car that will be readily available at some point. Not that they aren't cool, they are, but they are just inventory, replaceable inventory. Remember the New Beetle, PT Cruiser, etc, etc...

I believe that volume, not gross profit, is the key. The guys up the road will make a couple grand on the first few they sell, in the meantime, we'll sell 10 to 15 times more. That means 15 times more service customers, sources for referals, etc... It is simple mathematics.

Upstate NY. We sell all over the country though. Airfare is pretty cheap now days. Check out our reputation over at Ford Truck Enthusiast, we've sold a bunch of Super Dutys all over the place.

Feel free to contact me if you need any info.

Thanks,

Paul

I was not saying that the 300 under invoice was the x-plan price. I was saying that it was a better deal than the x-plan price. I joined AAA after reading here on this forum that you might be able to obtain favorable pricing on the 05 mustang. After joining AAA and navigating their site i realized that they have a "Vehicle Buying Program" which apparently is agreements with certain Ford Dealerships. Upon Selecting Ford and entering my zip code I was presented with a SHORT list of dealers that were "Close" to me. In reality they were not that close. Closest one was 30 miles, but had no info on 05 mustang or just didn't want to deal. The second closest was about an hour and a half away. When I generated the Certificate from the AAA website I was very excited to see that it said 300 under invoice 2004/2005 mustang. Still a little skeptical I waited for the dealer to contact me, and he confirmed over the phone that the 300 under invoice for a 05 mustang was true. He then had me email him the exact specs I wanted for my car and he emailed me right back saying he would place the order for my car at a gauranteed 300 under invoice. I have since sent him a $500 deposit on the car.

Unfortunately there are not dealers even "close" according to the AAA site for the Northwest. So I heard that the Costco car buying program will get most new vehicles at invoice price. If they can get me a loaded 05 for invoice I'll go through them.

I sure will... Usually I'm a lurker but every once in awhile I have something to add B)

I likely won't know until the Mustangs are on the lots and pricing is available. I'm going to try and send in a request tonight though.

For anyone who is interested, this is my question and the response from CAA regarding the CAARS Program:

My e-mail:
To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to know what the “no-haggle” price is relative to invoice if a vehicle is purchased at a CAARS preferred dealer (ie. Invoice + 2%)?

Response:

Hi Danny:

CAA members purchasing a new vehicle through the CAARS Connection program, will pay no more than 5% over dealer invoice price.

My dealer promised me $500 under dealer invoice because of how many cars my dad and grandpa have bought from them the past 30 years.

So my question: How much does a dealer pay for a 2005 Mustang GT?

Man, I've read enough out here to be able to answer this one. Pricing is not out yet. That applies to both the dealers and the consumers. Stay tuned and you will find out. B)
