2007 fan question

I noticed today when I started my car that no air was coming from the vents. I had the fan speed on 1 and max ac on. When I switched it to speed 2, it worked as should. When I switched it back to 1 it also worked as should. Turned the car off, left it on setting 2, started it and it worked as should. It only seems to do it when I leave it on 1 and start it.

could this be the blower motor resistor? Other than this, everything works great. I hope this makes sense to someone.

I wonder if the fan bearings/shaft are dirty or worn to the point that it will not start from the slowest setting and needs a higher setting to overcome inertia.

i thought that too, but after starting it at the 2 setting, I immediately tried starting it at the 1 setting and it worked. Tried it again a few minutes later and nothing until I switched it to 2.

my last 07 ended up needing the climate control module replaced. Ended up buying one off of ebay

Perhaps is wasn't fully stopped when you tried it? Or just luck of the draw as to what position the motor was in.

so does the whole blower motor need replaced? If so, it doesnt look that complicated. Should I even worry about it since it still does work?

Since it works if you switch to 2 first, I doubt it is worth the hassle to replace.

If he sees it and has anything to add, Houtex is a wealth of knowledge on these cars.

You raaanggg....?

Although I dunno about wealth... maybe I can rub a couple of coins together... But in this case...

---

Easy test:

When the fan isn't running, go under the dashboard on the passenger side and smack the bottom of the motor. If it kicks on, the motor needs replacing. If it doesn't, the blower motor resistor needs replacing, or the problem lies with the fan control switch itself. *Possibly* the SJB, but I kinda hope not. In any event, anything past the motor itself will likely result/need a multimeter and patience. Gotta love wiring/switch/computer issues...

For what it's worth, the motor was my issue. Same issue. Wouldn't run, flicking the switch about seemed to fix, but really didn't... Did that 'whack' test, tada, motor running. There's your problem, lady. Which is wrong, I'm not a lady. Anyway, replaced it. All fixed!

There's a little caveat about the replacement motor, go read this thread:
https://themustangsource.com/forums/...-style-547802/

So be aware that you may be in for a little wiring change on your car to replace the motor, because they went to the newer style only for replacement, hence the included pigtail. If it's the motor that is...

Hope that helps!

I did your test, seems to be the resistor. The ford dealership wants 500 to fix it. I just watched a YouTube video, and it looks like itll take 10 min. I'll do it myself lol.

I might wait a while since it still works great on the other fan speeds and it's not a daily driver.
