@Jivesh1

So you used the 1st WPT1242 and made a wire harness that connects to the steering wheel. Correct?
With the 2nd WPT1242 you need to make a wire harness that has female plugs at the end in order to slot them into the J1 connector that has empty slots.
What I did is used 16 to 19 in J1. Don't worry about J3 right now. Plug them into J1 and test it. If it doesn't work then move on to J3. Just make sure to plug them in the right spot. When I plugged mine in my vol buttons were backwards so I had to take those pins out and swap them.

Hi @VGMStudios , Ah I see, so no Blackfriday fights?

Actually no... I used the old connector from the steering wheel to connect to the new steering wheel?
Basically, I cut off the old connector and soldered it to the new one. I follwed up to page 2 of the PDF file you recommended.

Now, I've 5 wires connected. (the entire left module - cruise control, power and ground). I've 4 more cables left thats not connected to anything.,

What exactly is a J1, J3 etc?

Basically right now, I've finished Page 1 and 2 of the guide. Using only the old connector from the old steering without touching any of the WPT1242.

@Jivesh1 Well we do have Black Friday but its not as big as the south....
If you read the PDF it tells you were the 2 WPT1242 connectors go. The first one goes into the steering wheel and the second one goes from the steering column into J1. J1 is the connector that connects to the radio.

You need to remove the original AUDIO PLUG that is in the steering wheel and replace it with One of the WPT1242. REMEMBER the way you solder it as it needs to match EXACTLY with the other WPT1242 wire harness that you make.
From the AUDIO PLUG there should be a BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN and PURPLE. Use them to connect to your 1st WPT1242.
Should look like this:

When making the 2nd make sure to make it in the same order.

Once you get here and still need help LMK.

Awesome, thanks! the connector slots were covered with plastic... got it figured out!
I've finished modding the harness.
Now, all thats left is to hook it up to the radio.

This sounds dumb but...
1) theres only 4 wires... and there are 8 switches.
Do I connect one from the steering into 2 on the radio? (I'm not using stock radio but an Atoto S8 pro android).

2) Do you know what colour does what? I've Purple, Green, Blue and Yellow.

Thanks again!

@VGMStudios
After playing around with the wiring for hours, I realized something.
It partially works if I do this.
Blue and Green = Ground
Purple and Yellow = Steering Wheel Control 1 on the Android Unit.

I say it works partially because, I can only programme up to 5 buttons.
Vol Up, Vol Down, Forward, Backward, Mute.

The other 3 isnt working. I'm guessing the resistance variance isnt big enough for the Atoto Headunit to recognize that they are different buttons?

Also, I cant seem to change the steering wheel button colours. On the original 2005 steering, the buttons would change together with the Mycolour function but now, these are stuck at blue (the speedo etc still changes).

The video I followed was this :
Another guide suggested adding a resistor to the yellow wire, do you think that would help the headunit recognize the last 3 buttons?

Thanks again!

I can't help you if you don't follow the guide. I don't know what others have done so I can't help you there and I'm not sure what you are doing taping wires together.
But I'll try to simplify it for you since you are having a difficult time. As I said I know it can be confusing at first.

First off your head unit is an android unit correct?
If so you would have a harness that connects the car to the radio yes? Take a picture of it.
2nd the first WPT1242 connector at the steering wheel of mine looks like this.

I made the 2nd one exactly like it and plugged it into the steering wheel column.

At the back of the HU (head unit) there is a wire harness that comes with the car. It looks like this:

The larger one at the bottom is J1! You need to put the wires coming from the steering wheel column into the empty slots in that connector.

This is a close up of that connector.

As you can see on the bottom it says 16 that's were you start.

This is the back of the same connector.

According to the pfd you plug in your wires into slots 16 17 18 19.
18 & 19 are for the audio controls. So vol and back n forth.
16 & 17 are for the rest of the buttons.

With my HU the telephone button doesn't work unless I'm connected via Bluetooth with my phone. Yours may be similar.

Also as I mentioned before if you want to change the colour of the LEDs in the steering wheel buttons you will need to solder green or whatever colour you want in there.
I didn't know the older buttons had RGB LEDs as mine didn't have that option and yes I do have the My color option with the car.
I hope this clarifies some confusion.

@VGMStudios

Wow man, thanks for taking the time to post pics and all. I tried the step by step and it didnt work. Found a work around and its working great (except 1 button).
I'll share how I did it here so that anyone in the future with the same problem might find it useful.

Step 1: exactly as the pdf, all cruise controls work using the old steering connector.

Step 2: Radio controls.6 wires
Red and Black (connected to the cruise control's red and black).
Blue and Green = soldered together and connect to the Black ground on the steering wheel itself.
Yellow and Purple = soldered together and connects to the clockspring. From clock spring, single cable to the Android SWC cable.

Now here is the tricking bit. 3 buttons of the left of the Audio controls have very similar output to the other 5 buttons (phone hang up, phone pick up and voice reg?)
To make a difference, you'll have to cut the yellow connector and add a 1k ohm resistor.

Once this is done, just boot up the radio, go to the steering wheels control setup and programme the buttons individually.

Everything is working perfectly, unfortunately my radio does not have android autoplay so I cant use the voice recognition button, will prolly just use it to return to home screen.

Thanks again VGMStudios.

Regarding the lights... that will be another project I guess.
Now I'm left with the following fixes/mods and the car would be good to go!
1) Stainless steel brake hose installation
2) proper speakers
3) trunk release button + trunk getting stuck during opening
4) steering lights
5) projector headlamps? (not sure if these are legal in Germany)
