2005-2009 Mustang Auto Shifter Stuck can't get my key out! NEED HELP.

I know someone else had this problem way back, OK so I just picked up the car from the vinyl shop (white stripes started to blacken in spots) I drive her home and pull into the drive way and try to put it in park and the shifter would not go up in to park enough to let me get me get the key out of the ignition. Anyone else ever have this problem? I know the guy that did had an 05 V6 Sonic Blue. Either way the dealer told me to bring it in, and I had to leave it there with the key stuck on accesory, so my battery will be dead by the time they get to her on Monday  Could be tranny linkage anyone else got any ideas?

I'd be wondering if the guy at the vinyl shop might have tried to pull it out of park without stepping on the brake pedal, bending the linkage/cable brackets or whatever its got under there...seems odd to have a problem after letting someone else have it. come to think of it, maybe not odd at all

hope they get you fixed up quickly. if worried about the battery deep cycling, just pop the battery cable off- but be sure to leave them the other key

as long as you turn everything off your battery shouldn't die.

Yeah I wondered about that also the people who did my stripes are a group of girls though so women are usually more delicate with things then men, though there are some really butch girls out there. Either way if it was there fault no way to prove it.

I can't turn everything off because the key would not turn past the accessory position in the ignition, so the interior lights and the CEL light are on, still I am sure they disconected the battery.......sigh...

I had the same problem a year ago...it was the shift interlock device on the steering column....double check to make sure they don't damage the column after, they broke the cheap plastic clips on both half and didn't even tell me, until I notice I could see right inside!! ****ERS!!

If you play around with the shifter, sometimes it comes free, I had the problem for about 3 months, before they fixed it

Theres is a little "door" right next to the shifter on the bezel. Open that up and you should be able to unlock the shifter.

Thanks guys, Thing that sucks is that they have to replace the whole shifter and now I worry that they won't re-install the felt to prevent the new one from scratching. still I you have to love this I call about my car (they have had it since sunday and did not look at it till tuesday, though thats because there is a specific Tech that always works on my car) anyway I ask the service rep what went wrong with my car his responce? " Something with the shifter".......gee you think?! I tried to get more out of him but he just would not say, either he did not know or maybe they don't like saying. Hopefully picking it up today.
