I got 20 mpg for my first tank, a balance of city and highway, and driving pretty reasonably.

If you get pulled over doing 85, let the highway patrolman know that the manual recommends driving at different speeds for the first 1000 miles in order to properly break in the engine.

14 mpg? That is not good. I hope most get better than this. I recently drove a 2004 f-150 4x4 with the 5.4 ltr engine, and it got 14 mpg. If that heavy brick got that, the mustang should be doing 20. Heck, my friend's new vette gets (relatively) great mileage. This is disappointing news in these times of $2.50 gas. I hope it is not true.

Since you are in CO, have the put the freeze guard additive in the gas yet. I know that lowers the MPG.

Freeze guard in gas??? Gasoline freezes at -97F! I know Colorado gets cold, but not that cold.

I think he just needs to do the pad-n-paper MPG calculations. The computer sometimes takes in too many factors on calculating. My $0.02.

The stang I test drove got 14 mpg, with me getting all over it. I thought that was pretty good. My explorer will vary about 5 mpgs based on how I drive it. I ussually get 16 or 17, but if I go easy I can get 20 or 21.

Well yeah..... that was the point, believe me that car hauled *****, a 650 Double Pumper would have been overkill with not enough of a performance gain to be worth the poopy mileage.

I attribute the mileage more to the balance and blueprinting.

Before the rebuild, it got 15mpg

Im now on my second tank of gas with the new mustang.

The first tank. I got an average of 14mpg. I was doing alot of excessive acceleration both on the highway and on the streets.

Yesterday after I got more gas, and altered my driving to be more resonable (still getting on it enough to know I didn't buy the V6) my milage improved to 20.7 mpg

I'll reset the milage computer before getting on the highway tonight, I imagine I'll break the 21 mpg barrier.

I think its a combination of the motor geting broken in and driving style that most seriously effects gas milage.

20.7 is much more reasonable if you aren't getting on it a lot. Like others have said, the best way is to manually calculcate the mileage over a couple of tanks, and not use the computer.

I know it's not an '05 but I get between 14-16 mpg mostly around town/rush hour driving and flooring it everywhere.

btw we've already heard that some companies have chip tuning ready which does improve gas mileage and/or increase horsepower

I don't know much about the freezing pont of gas, but here in Pittsburgh, they put an additive in the gas during the cold months. This reduces the mpg unfortunately. If I think about it, I will try to get a picture of the sign that says this. It is posted on every pump.
